General Guidelines: Roleplay What is Roleplay? Roleplay is something which can be very tricky to describe. When asked, many people might say that roleplaying is creating a character and interacting with other characters as you go about your day, doing whatever that character does. This is simply one half of what roleplaying is. To find the rest, simply break the word roleplay into its base words, and you can now guess that you will be playing a role. The importance of this is for roleplayers to understand that their character is not who they are, and what they might do is not what you might do - all of which leads us into the realm of character disassociation, which has its own very important guidelines topic to review more information. Good RP vs Bad RP Strictly speaking, there is no set scale for what can be considered good roleplay or bad roleplay. As an old mentor of mine told me, there is no good or bad RP, only RP and breaches of RP. For more on that, take a look at the other roleplay guidelines concerning powergaming, godmodding, etc. The overall idea, however, is that there are many different flavors of roleplay, and each of them can be enjoyable to someone. Some players enjoy emoting in paragraphs all day, some enjoy the militaristic style, and some even enjoy prison roleplay. Do not worry overly about good or bad roleplay.
