Then you guys will just have to not use squadrons (if Walldo fixes it)?

See, this is why I just…I just love people some times. If Walldo fixes it so firesprays (Transports) can’t be used…People aren’t going to go “WELL HOT DAMN LETS BREAK OUT THOSE TIE’S!!!” WE’re going to buy R-41’s or or Cutlass’s or whatever else provides the most bang. Its going to be exchanging one problem for another. Which you’d already know if you read the posts, of course.

Is it that big of a deal that you aren’t using TIEs, or the Rebels using X-wings? I’ll agree with the transport fix not being ideal if that’s the case you are addressing, though it seems far simpler to me to just make transports not so loaded in weaponry.

Ultimately it of course makes no difference. But given how focused everything is on trying to make things close to canon where possible, it would seem like there would be a reason to wanna use these ships. And I mean hell if its so important that Tie’s and X-Wings and all their farther down the line ships just completely SUCK, why not strip them from the game entirely, as they’re useless now and just sucking up space.

It is kind of sad that we don’t get that proper flavor of TIES vs X-Wings and such. The Rebellion, by the way, was using X-Wings because that was what they could get. They stole them from Sinear (along with some scientists who helped them make more) because…well….who’s honestly going to risk it by selling a bunch of fighters to the Rebels? Besides Corellia, who was apparently feeding them ‘vettes. But then, I guess maybe Bel Iblis had something to do with that….who knows.
And TIES fit in with the strange “Massive wave of fodder backed up by a huge punch” strategy that the Empire used. I dunno. My thoughts.

I’m most likely going to be coding it shortly so that squadroned interceptors have to be starfighters. My original thought was to allow space for one transport per squadron, either as a refueler or a squad leader – then someone pointed out to me that things dont have to be battlegrouped or squadroned to a ship to working as a refueling vessel. kinda obvious, that. *facedesk*

The issue is not with people going out and buying better starfighters if they don’t like their clan ones – so what, clan choice, big deal. The issue is that squadrons are meant to COMPLIMENT player-fought battles, not make them that much shorter by demolishing everything in a matter of minutes.

On the issue of making clans use their canon interceptors, tough thing to do. I’m happy to brainstorm with Walldo about how, to take an earlier example, using TIEs would allow you to have more ships in a squadron than other fighter models because they’re a cheap swarm of metal, using all the same model of ship giving a slight bonus to the shields/dodge capability of the lead ship in the squadron…i dunno. just throwing ideas out there now!

      From OP(@Ocerion):
“Allow the weak and borderline useless Tie’s to be used in far greater numbers. Keep them pitiful, but increase the squadron number by 2-3, then enforce a rule (Maybe by code) that says you MUST use your own clans interceptor types.”

Actually, that strikes me as by far the easiest way to do it. Obviously i’m not going to immediately run and stuff it in but what would you (and anyone else in the discussion) say to a potential fix of making the existing squadronmax on all Imperial capital ships a lot higher, and codedly then restricting the ships to only be able to squadron TIE variants? The only snag i’d see with a suggestion like that is what happens when decent TIE variants (phantoms, avengers etc) roll around…

Once the more decent TIE variants are brought around, then you could change the hangar space to accomidate less fighters or something. It could be something such as changing armament (yes I spell bad). I agree that the lower TIE are more like cannon fodder to block the masses so maybe while increasing the Imperial squadronmax you also increase hangar space.

You really do not need to increase hangarspace, likely. And going back to the point Ralen said earlier, fighters are meant as compliments to space fights, not as a quick way to end a small engagement. Squadrons easily overwhelm with how many numbers they have right now.

Somewhat related to this: ISDs being able to spam tractor on a Providence class is another size issue that should be looked into.

      Cruisers versus battleships.
Develop a new one if you don’t want to be tractored!

Tie Phantoms? Lol, I doubt we’ll ever see cloaking starfighters on LOTJ, there is just way to much I could abuse right there. Anyhow as for the bigger better starfighters, just remember. For every Tie-Avenger/Tie-Phantom(So not gonna happen lol)…There is always a K-Wing, which could eat both at the same time while yawning.

Oh, as for cruisers being tractored by battleships…If you have a cruiser, and you’re squaring off a against a battleship…(See: Providence vs ISD) and you get WITHIN TRACTOR RANGE…You deserve everything that happens to you for ignoring your ships strength. Specially with -THAT- cruiser, which is just awesome for its size.

I just want to point out the conflicting statements of “stop hiding and do something rebels” “don’t use a cruiser against a battleship” and “develop better ships”.

-Changing hangarspace once a ship is in game is imm intervention in it’s crudest form, i’d want to avoid that. once a ship is in the game it should stay that way.
-We’ve had cloaking starfighters before, and tbh…as much as it MIGHT get denied, 1 time out of 100 we might just approve cloaking squadrons for the sheer hilarity of it. spamlaunch WHEREDIDTHEYGO
-Tractor ranges are entirely dependant on the amount of tractor beams, so “stay out of range” is not always a viable argument.
-“Stop hiding, enemy clan X” arguments are always retarded. If you are the dominant superpower of the Galaxy, do not sit and sulk on osay that people are (correctly, given the IC state of play in that situation) hiding out of your way. If it is boring when an underdeveloped clan is hiding from you, think how boring it will be if you crush them in the space of 5 minutes and then sit on your ass for an era. Use it in propaganda, bully -others- into hiding, or force other players into rebelling. If you cannot enjoy yourself as an evil character without battering other clans into submission and perming everyone that ever even slightly annoys you you fail hardcore, especially when “moustache-twirling archvillain” is handed to you on a plate.
-From waaaay earlier – A-wings don’t suck. from what I remember they have about 16 missiles and can reach ludicrous-speed without the aid of Lonestar (the movie character, not the account character). 🙁

Quote Bai: “Cruisers versus battleships. Develop a new one if you don’t want to be tractored!”

Lol, right. It’s more or less “develop a new cruiser” because the imm in charge of development is kinda squirrelly sometimes. (No offense, although I think this will get deleted by the LOTJ Government for some reason. DOWN WITH THE WALLDO%)
