Doesn’t shove work atm? If someone is blocking you can ‘shove’ them, which is what you usually do IC to get past them anyway if they’re blocking. Though if they unblock when they go afk it’s the same fix.

After reading all these suggestions, it seems to me there is a simply plan to execute here. Make people who are AFK go invis, not seen by anyone. They can still hear clan channels, though I’m not sure they need to hear the public channel. But as a precautionary, still go ahead and make all skills that should not effect people AFK, not effect them.
So, therefore, while AFK, you would be rendered invisible and can’t be fucked with when you come back because no one will be able to locate you. Also, as an added precaution, make it once you come back from afk, you’re still invis until you do any command besides look. If you do anything other than look, you become visible again.
For RP purposes, you could make afk message saw something like, so and so moves out of view or something and comes into view when they get back. Little less RP intrusive then NAME is now AFK.
But hey, I’m a simple person and I see things in black and white. I don’t look at all the little details. Plus, the fact that I don’t have all the little details, I won’t even bother to speculate what they are.

Seems like making people invisible would be extremely easy to abuse. Get your group to sneak into an enemy clan base, afk to go totally invisible, then wait there for unsuspecting suckers to pass by twiddling their thumbs while you mow them down.

That’s one of those that should fall into the ‘Newspaper’ category of punishment, I believe.

Even WITHOUT the "invis" aspect, that’s exactly why the "look while AFK" functionality was taken out: people would AFK in the Coruscant Plaza (the old one, among other places) and go un-AFK to jump somebody.

I like the concept of AFK people not even being visible. I stand by my previous beliefs that they should not see or hear ANYTHING IC. Give them OOC channel and maybe osay.

What happens if you blow up a ship with a grenade, either accidentally or on purpose, and there’s an AFK person inside that you can’t see due to them being invisible? There are a few situations where it would be nice to know that someone will be inadvertantly affected by your actions.

If you play with grenades on a ship, than you are a dumbass anyway. If you share a ship with someone that is dumb enough to play with grenades on a ship you deserve your fate. And if you are none of the above and go afk chances are the person playing with grenades on said ship is looking to kill himself/herself and doesnt care who him/her takes with him/her. That being said instead of AFK invis have afk trans you to a special afk room. Have it like a meditation room but put full commshield Also I dont know if meditation areas are flagged commshield or whatever but you cannot do ooc in those only osay, you can hear commlinks but not clan. I think if you should be able to osay you should be able to ooc.

Commshield blocks pretty much all channels because OOC/tell/etc. aren’t differentiated from clan/etc. as far as the coding goes. As for meditation rooms, I assume you mean "quiet" rooms; those only block "say.""Walldo":3753m1xx wrote:I like the concept of AFK people not even being visible. Again, I’ll bring up the fact that players can get dropped when they un-AFK. Maybe code in a "no kill" timer similar to the "no quit" timer, making it actually impossible for recently-AFK players to perm for… 2 minutes, or some such?

no the quiet rooms block talk, say, ooc, clan. You can still hear the comm channels but not clan. You can osay but not ooc.

Wrong answer.
If you’d bothered to read my post, quiet-flagged rooms block say. Any other blocked channels are blocked courtesy of the commshield flag (found in jail cells most commonly), not the quiet flag. They’re different animals entirely.

And I am telling you places where you can make lightsabers block the ability to see and talk on ooc, and clan. They block your ability to use talk but not to hear the talk channels. And you can’t use say.The only thing you can do is osay, emote, and practice force skills and make lightsabers. But you should be able to see and use ooc. Since you cant see the clan channel you should not be able to see the talk channel. This is all I am saying. Don’t say I am wrong because I know I am right because I was spamming mlightsaber x this past week untill I got to 100% which took a long time and I had to put my comlinks in my backpack cause I was getting hella spam from talk. I just think there is a flaw in that you cannot see clan or ooc but you can see talk. The real bummer though was finding out lightsabers where ineffective >.<
But again we are getting way off topic:
There should be an AFK timer that works the same as when you kill shit timer.
You cant log off for x amount of minutes and you cant be attacked by a player for x amount of minutes
lookup (purely rp reasons)
steal (eventhough if you go AFK where the public can see you, you deserve this. But then again there is always that asshat that breaks into your ship sees you afk and steals your shit)
swipe (see above)
slip
murder
grab
bind
blackjack
lunge
aim
backstab
and that is about all I can think of. These are things I can think of doing to a player while afk if I felt like being an asshat (which believe it or not is not very often.)Of course there’s that argument that the person I am trying to perm suddenly goes afk to keep from getting permed, thus making me go away. Which is another downside to afk invis or transing or blocked skills. People will try and abuse it. My solution to this set a timer for being able to go afk if you have been in a fight and fled, then you cannot go afk for x amount of minuets. This is so a player doesnt try to do any asshattery or abuse of additions implemented for reasonable reasons. I can list several ways I would exploit something like going afk while running away from being permed. But my final two arguments all of my opinions being said, if there is an afk timer after someone flees from a perm, and you cannot catch him for 5 minutes or more, you need to rethink if you should pk or not. If you cannot use known tactics to keep someone from fleeing a perm then you need to rethink if you should be pking or not. These are all suggestions and reasons why I am suggesting such things.

Then there still is a problem because you shouldnt be able to see talk in a commshielded room. That I have had like two prison rps where I had a commlink and I do not remember if I could see the talk channel or not. But of course its just my opinions on the matter.
