Yes, that reminds me of back when various people chilling AFK in the plaza and looking at people as they walked by, waiting for their target to come (this is the reason you cannot use look when AFK now). I had asked Rojan to make it so AFK people are completely cut off from the IC world but all we got was look.

I agree, I think afk people should be forced to stop blocking, stop actions, and make it so they cant say, hear any channel except ooc channels, beep osay ooc newbie immchat rpc chat. Im tired of people going afk and logging says clans talks and so on. If your flagged afk we cant affect you so you cant affect anything. I think worst case scenario I watch a person go afk and they still were rping, they could say and emote (I think they emoted I dont remember correctly) I told them to go un afk they told me they might have to leave and did not want any negative rp.

Just make AFK move you to a room that’s commshield. And sometimes being AFK but seeing stuff is good. I noticed someone break a rule while looking at AFK logs that wouldn’t have been caught any other way.

I agree with the "seeing stuff is good," both for the reason you stated (been there as well) and for the reason I’ve already stated, in that being able to do shit when a player goes un-AFK isn’t fair.
However, I’d say no to commshield, because commshield blocks OOC channels as well. Additionally, while some would argue that it’s a slight "dick move," almost everyone uses the AFK flag when they’re idling. Say, for example, they’re asked for on clan; if clan’s blocked, they couldn’t go un-AFK and carry on their business (prisoner RP, anyone?).

It’s mostly for jail cells. People would see "oh hey my captured buddy is awake and on OOC" and it could lead to OOC/IC issues.

Because back in the day, there weren’t really any policies dealing with IC and OOC channels. Clans used to use their clan command for OOC to eachother all the time, and it wasn’t really that big a deal if someone started screaming over OOC, except you’d get retards who’d angry-spam OOC with LET ME OUT LET ME OUT so Ghost decided to make it a silent room.

If you stop piloting you will crash when you reach the surface.AFK
You are now afk.
You stop piloting.*BOOM* You crash somewhere on the surface of the planet and are at -300 hp. Good luck noob.

You must be thinking of a different character. Hobo never dealt with Sonya to any extent, and he was the sort of guy that did the blackjacking, not the other way around–I can’t even think of him ever having been blackjacked.The specific occasion I was speaking of was when Shalin, a Quarren BHer who refused to align with any of the hunter cliques at the time, was jumped by the then Black Sun BHer clique (Kraine & company)–this was during the OR of the Neru Bas TL, not any time when the clan Neru Bas actually existed.

It was Hobo RJ, when Sonya and company broke into the old New Republic base with the four directional room exits and note terminal. You came back from afk and were promptly whacked around the back of the head, followed by some discussion of whether or not to kill Hobo, which was decided against.
I think it was her usual ‘It’s my time of the month so I’m going to break into the citadel and rape any NR person I find’ episode, which usually happened when she was told no by someone high up in the NR.
However this is slightly off topic and I don’t like to deviate.

Huh. I really don’t remember that. I remember Karimdur fucking with me while I was AFK (e.g. grabbing me and dropping me somewhere), but I don’t remember that.
Though, on a side note, I’m pretty sure I know why they didn’t kill me (if that story’s true).

I don’t think channels should be turned off while AFK. My triggers are set up so during cooldown I’m AFK, as I’m sure lots of other people’s are, and I like to come back and see if there’ve been any clan messages, such as "Don’t leave the base there’s 21 angry hunters waiting outside!" or similar things…

Anyway. Since I first read this topic I’ve been in a few situations where grabbing somebody was necessary (none of which could be fixed by making people stop piloting/blocking exits while AFK). Most of them involved the AFK person needing to follow somebody who was leaving but not having typed in the command, one of them involved me stupidly disbanding my group because there were several people following me and I was too impatient to wait for them all to stop following me, and the last involved somebody I was following needing to get me into a small ship while I was AFK.
Not to mention the aforementioned issue with either being stuck on a ship while somebody who’s AFK holds the controls hostage or going AFK before you land and being forced to release the controls and crashing…
Basically, I think you should be allowed to grab people when they’re AFK. This is one of those cases where I think the best solution is just trusting the player base to not act like a bunch of assholes. And if they do they we can smack them on the nose with a rolled up newspaper.
