You can get information on which direction the ships are moving and with what velocity, from there it’s just a matter of some intelligent scripting.
Also I’m sure that the MUSHclient’s new miniwindows feature can be used to create an adequate view of what is going on.
Also the firing messages can be captured and interpreted in the script into small lines/laser bolts between the firing ship and the ship that is being fired at in the visual aid. Also the ship destruction messages can be captured.
I’m sure that we can create something that is genuinely useful in massive spacefights.

The problem is turning, though. And having to check each time a ship speeds up, slows down, turns, to see what speed they changed to, what their course is, how fast they’re turning.

Nah I could handle turning that’s easy. Just a lot of work to get a 3d display up.

The work comes from capturing the information. Think of how much lag you will cause yourself just from typing ‘radar’ once just a space battle with squadrons, rockets, missiles, etc. all flying around.

Also, I’m not too keen on posting scripts here. The code seems to get wrapped weirdly and then not work properly. If there was a better way to post it, I would.

You’d have to be constantly spamming stat on every ship in the sector, as well as radar, as well as info on each ship at least once, to get their maneuver number.

I’m sure that there is a bajillion little things that change every nano second of the fight.
But still it’s better having atleast somekind of a picture of the set up than not having a set up at all.Also I’m sure that it wouldn’t be too much of trouble to create a
config +elaborateradar
to allow the players see more information with the radar commandeven with a radar command sent every say, 4 seconds would make the radar screen show pretty new info on it. Plus when the firing echoes, ship destructions, hyper outs and -ins are captured in real time it would still kick ass even when the ship locations lagged a wee bit.
I see the biggest challenge being, like Anastasius said, putting up the 3D display. I feel that going for a mushclient miniwindow that shows a wannabe 3D view of thigs is the safest option. Atleast that’s what I will be trying first.

Good point.. I haven’t had a real pilot character since last TL’s era 2. Or like, 3. I forget which.

Apparently posting this here distorts the picture a little (atleast in the preview), it doesn’t look as shitty on –imgur[/url:3b5x3mmf]-. I’ve made the first version of the background/foreground set-up and am now figuring out the maths to make it work (like if Y is 50,000 then I need to add 60 pixels to the X, if 0 then 30, if -50,000 then 0 and so on). I’ll be drinking coffee like a madman today, hopefully i’ll figure out it soon. Here’s what I’ve got so far (it’s not much but might just get you excited):
