      Thanks for clarifying.

It’s actually not that bad of an idea and I’d like to see how it could flesh out. It would be great for wargames and stuff. I speak too much about it though since most of what I want to say has already been said.

I love this idea, and I’ve always loved simulators…it’s so, so, so so so so so, much better than flying here..and there..and here…and there…seven thousand times.
And, so far as I’ve seen in other muds with it, the sim ships can’t leave the sim sector.

Perhaps we could even get it set up at some point to have capships in there too…

having public arenas could give us new RP opportunities too, like

The First Annual Galactic Space Gladiatorial Tournament, sponsored by AdasCorp!!! First prize, A Dynamic Class Freighter outfitted however you like!

Sims are also just good fun, for you and your buddies.
"hey man, i’m a better pilot than you!"
      "Nuh uh!"
      "Prove it!"

Off you go. They’re not just a good leveling tool, you can get plenty of RP out of these things.

Nein. No simulators. We had them years ago, and they were horrid. Every five seconds, every ten minutes…Everyone was in them. Noone did anything else, simulators, then research, then gear finding. Gods NO. However, I do like tournaments, hell I’d like to see more advanced piloting then what we got now anyway.

But NOO. Simulators = No no no no no. I shun the OP for even suggesting it, shun shun shun. No shoes. No shirts. No Simulators.

Uh… Onasaki, are you talking about the warrior simulators, or the ships that simulate space combat? ‘Cause from the sounds of it, you’re talking about the first one… which isn’t what this is about… o.O

Exactly. Simulators = No no. They were taken out for a reason.

Except if he actually read the topic he’d know that that’s not at all what’s being talked about. We’re talking about basically an IC version of the capship stuff that you could use to train piloting by flying but without actually flying somewhere, rather than a room with a prog that autolevels you in thirty seconds.

Only problem is that to get piloting xp, you have to either blow something up, or hyper to a different system, and land.

It probably wouldn’t be too terribly hard to simulate flying and space combat if something like this were to get implemented… but then again, I know jack about coding =/

the simulators are easy..it’s just like walldo said..you make a special area of space that’s the "simulator zone", park ships on the ‘simulator pad’ and give them the "Sim" flag. Then you make it so you can’t hyper into/out of the sim zone, and let people loose in it. they can practice shooting other people down all day long, and the Sim flag will make the ships instead of die, go back to the sim pad when ‘destroyed’.
The coding part may not be that simple, but that’s the overall..sumarry..of..it!

Yes.. "simulator" as in "virtual ships that can be fought in and blown up and fight other people with without dying", not "simulator" as in "room you sit in and with no effort get buttload of levels"
