Actually, most pilots know how to perform the skills they need to repair most problems on an aircraft. At least, most of the pilots I know (quite a few).

However, I would like to see a quickfix for pilots (something not necessarily so hot that might wear down again) and ship maintenance for engineers.

I made a post concerning upkeeps, and need for constant maintenance was one of the focuses in making ships more expensive for people to own.

Having it so engis can fully repair but pilots can jury-rig it to get back to port would fit pretty well.

Sure adding more skills would be nice, but that was not an option at the time. Sure you can make the case that you can build it, you can fix it (which can be argued) but you can state just as many ideas that it should be in piloting.[/quote:q2mbmg21]

My apologies, Captain. It was my attempt at.. human criticism.

      No, no you really can’t.

Name an aircraft pilot that repairs their aircraft in midair with any proficiency. This is why the army, navy, marines and air force have an engineering corp. The fact is, they /can’t/ repair what they’re driving. Sure, they may be able to jury rig it (speaking of pilot repair skills, jury rig seems to sound just right), but they can’t repair it, that’d be an engineer’s job.[/quote:7t1dxzso]

Interjecting real life situations does not apply to Star Wars. Star Wars universe had plenty of people who piloted their own ships who could repair them just fine. Besides, Walldo already said it’s not getting switched back.

Some could, some couldn’t. I’d imagine because they had the engi for it. Either way, I think it’s a bad move. We should strive for realism where it doesn’t detract from gameplay.

If you want realism, go join the Navy sailorboy. If you want to play the game, stay here right now <!– s;) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!– s;) –>

      Thanks for playing!

I agree at least lower the skill some on Pilot then so people with low pioting can learn it.

And there are plenty of high piloting race/main combinations that would also have enough engineering to be able to fix the ship if it were moved back. The point is that there ARE pilots who can’t fix their own ships, and there AREN’T shipcrafters who don’t know how.

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t understand why everyone is so butthurt over a frivolous change.

Especially since engineering and pilot give bonuses to each other. Every engineer has enough pilot to get the skill and every pilot should have had the engineering to get the skill way it used to be. I think the only way would be a -90 in the other. How ever even then I am skeptical.
