Delk: It would probably be Walldo.

I think it would be a nice change of pace. I would like to learn how to pilot, without having to be part of Sarac’s exclusive school of awesome pilots. I think it could open doors for pirates and the like to come out, because they wouldn’t necessarily be up against multiple ship battlegroups with their allowed three ships.

We should just disable battlegroup for a trial period and see what happens.

Technically, space combat is always going to be a little out of wack unless certain things are fixed. Ships shouldn’t be limited the way they are, but limited by the specific class. Like allowing one battleship class ship per group, 2 cruiser class ships, and 5 frigates, as an example…ONLY. And forcing the battleship class ship to be the flagship of the battlegroup. But its my opinion frankly, that the space battles should have groups of ships more varied in size, like that, and a LOT more starfighters. If you simply reduce it to no battlegroup, depending on wether or not you mean no squadrons as well, the whole thing could get slow, boring, and well…slow, for a lot of newer people who like watching flashing lights and explosions in game. What would be the most interesting idea, is a system that forced starfighters to duke out a battle before capitol ships could, by simply making starfighters essentially a outter…outter ring. And simply removing a capitol ships ability to target them, as long as you had starfighters in the "air" then, your capitol ships themselves wouldn’t be taking damage, just your starfighters and it would look nice, people could learn the whole system easier, it would seem more devastating while being less, and frankly would probably be the most realistic option of all.

lol, Sarac’s school of awesome pilots.

But in seriousness, whatever works. I guess? It’s seriously really easy to learn how. You just have to actually read a helpfile. And experiment a little on your own.

the fodder idea wouldn’t work when my idea of not making caps count when unammed is implented aswell.
But currently you cannot ignore the ships that don’t fire when they are all set as midguard for exmaple.
1 central flagship firing weapons, 3 midguard/outer caps that are essentialy idle, the oposing fleet would have to destroy those before being able to touch the central flagship if walldos idea would be implented as it is.

Further, I think we need some rules concerning escape pods. As it is now everyone simply shoots them down anyways because they don’t want to take the risk of capturing a player that may be carrying enough grenades to blow up the ship,or that may be so strong that he/she can decimate the capturing ships crew without a problem. I would much rather see pilots being captured and imprisoned then simply blown up for a quick kill. and with each cap manned, there will likely be a lot more escape pods.[/quote:3qheax8n]

iirc they changed it awhile back that any manned ship in a battlegroup can be targeted no matter the position.

(ID: 714) Capital Rules Update

If the flagship is manned, the entire fleet is open season for attacking.

THIS ONLY APPLIES IF THE FLAGSHIP IS IN TH SYSTEM OF SAID BATTLEGROUPED SHIP.

I’m in favor of this. Think of it this way – on the ground, would we allow any single toon to bring the effective firepower and defense of several more fully-equipped toons to a fight on his or her own? We do not – called mobs are a poor substitute for extra players. However, with battlegroup, you enable a single player to bring extra capital vessels that are just as effective offensively and defensively unmanned as if they were manned (and moreso sometimes, depending on whose macros we’re talking about). The answer on the ground has been grouping, training up extra shooters. The answer in space should be extra pilots, one per cap.

I like it, would bring a more realistic feel to Space combat and would make things a little harder. You have my vote.

My solution would be to build a simulator, which could be a world that when you enter a door, you get transfered to, and you are able to pick a ship to fly. when you say a command inside of a simulator ship(like you say level 1 for combat in gyms) you get an enemy to practice on. When inside the simulator, you could have level 10 be a capital ship with all the fighters, and a class 1 be a easy to hit star fighter or something. This could help people level piloting, and prove an effective way to teach them the system.

Why is it such a bad idea? Because it means that more people would get a chance to try things out?

No, because of what I said on the mud.

rather than having 1 or 2 battlegroups against 1 or 2 battlegroups which still could be 8 pilots vs 2… it would be 8 ships vs 2 ships… where as with battlegroups the 2 pilots have a chance.

Also 168 squadron fighters? lawl

we need less one man navies. i support this. it would also have the benefit of actually posting people to certain ships and sectors which should really happen anyway.
