It’s not a matter of encouraging PK. It’s a matter of encouraging people to look for PKs. There’s a drastic difference, and you’ll understand it the day someone intentionally does something to one of your chars to provoke a reaction just so they can perm you.

Why not include PKs? You kidding me? Some people wouldn’t even go out of their way to provoke people, they’d just camp a hotel, wait for someone to wake up, block n, murder perm. Out of sheer boredom and the sole excuse "I was only one away from that 1000 point achievement."

That in mind, pirate kill achievements would be pretty cool. Because pirates aren’t other people. You know. That sort of thing.

As to what Garand said, I agree wholeheartedly. >_> I totally would dig more quests, than achievements. Datachips is something I’d dig more than more quests, though.

It will make restores more complicated. Carl will kill Lenny for points, knowing that it doesn’t really matter because Lenny will get restored in either case. In the meantime, Homer and Apu are plotting on AIM to roll asshat chars so they get pkills and points off of one another. Simply a horrendous idea.

Wouldn’t really make them more complicated. It would just increase the amount of asshat restores (i.e. The "Kill-Them-And-Let-The-RPC-Sort-It-Out" bullshit mentality).

      [rant]
Edit: While I am well aware that RPC are supposed to sort out justified and unjustified perms, using this as your excuse to perm people is idiotic. I swear for everytime I heard someone say ICly, "Kill them and let the gods sort it out," I just wanted to turn to them and say, "Alright. I’m doing the same to you then."

We already have those asshat situations. We have people who pick fights with a no win situation and call it rp so they can kill you. This is a pk mud and an rp mud. We do have a pkill counter already and yes it is used in bragging rights already by alot of people. lul I have 20 pkills on this guy, well I have 35. So again, Why not?

So that makes it alright to be an enabler and encourage more of this?

Short answer, yes. We have too many people scared of losing their char and not participating in pkill situations. I believe if we can push it and encourage more common pk’s they will in turn be more active and participate. OMG someone broke a rule when they killed me. That falls on rpc and or imms not punishing people who break rules during pk situations. I understand the grey line issue but most of the time if the pker has a fuck it attitude and kills someone without any reason punish his/her ass.

So your plan to combat PK terror is to make sure people die way more often in ambiguous circumstances…

No my plan is to make pk more common. People are afraid of pk with the exception of a few players. They are scared to get into any sticky situation and wont do anything making the stag net affect worse. Instead of pushing for more control on pk like we keep doing we need to have less but clearly defined rules. When a rule is broken a punishment should be issued. Right now as it stands we are only a few steps away from asking for rpc/imm persmission for each and every pk. The reactive system is a joke. I have had imms halt my rp to stop somthing and it wasnt be going around shooting everyone in sight nor was I breaking any rules. Imm halted me to question my motives.

People are going to be afraid to lose their characters no matter what you do. The only thing you -can- do is soften the blow by offering consolations.

Nonsense, I am more attributing it to the head first method. Make them numb to the initial shock of dieing. As it becomes more common place people will get numb to it and start to enjoy the aspect.

Or it will turn people off because they’ve never had someone show them how to properly pk and they keep dying as a result. Sparring is all well and good but its no substitute for someone jumping out of the shadows and handing your ass to you when you’re not prepared for it.
Others have invested alot of time in their non-combatant characters and aren’t really willing to put it on the line against someone obviously more skilled/geared/knowledgeable in what is really a suicide by someone elses hand. As has been proven alot on here, a majority of people are only interested in the RP value of their mudding and avoid the more character ending side of PKing.

If there was more incentive to let your characters die then i’m sure alot more people would be all for it, thats where something like achievements could be useful. More points for doing certain things or achieving some quasi-goal state. As it stands the points return formula is a joke, i’ve seen long lived characters that have most of their skills done up not even get 1500. Wheres the incentive to make another character and play it for 6 months and get minimal returns? Its badly slanted to people who play throw away characters that they level, play for a solid month then do stupid things with that net them a larger return in the long run.

That is the whole point. People are spoiled and expect rewards for losing the char. This is an rp mud and a pk mud but they don’t wanna participate in pk at all. They don’t want to do anything to risk the char they worked hard on. Now we have the majority of the pbase sitting inside their phome and or clan base doing jack shit. PK as it stands in most players eyes is too discouraged. We need to encourage more of it.

I have no idea how a lighthearted conversation about pretend achievements turned into this. This isn’t anything that will ever actually happen I Just thought it’d be funny to come up with LotJ achievements ala xbox or steam.

      SHIPWRIGHT: Build 100 ships
HARD WORKER: Weld 1 billion hull
BOTOMATIC: Bot for 8760 hours on one character
      SOCIAL BUTTERFLY: get 500 greets
JAILBIRD: be arrested more than 15 times
CIVIC DUTY: be elected to rpc 5 times
OFF THE RAILS: derail 5 forum threads (cough)
GOOD OL DAYS: talk about how people whould have easier access to cloning on 10 different occasions
