The Death of Empress Niarem Zevon and the Rise of Lord Emperor Kai-Evelyn

[GNI Breaking News Report]

A female Chagrian anchor appears standing in a high-tech newsroom, standing
near a rotating holoprojection of the planet Coruscant with the Imperial Cog
overlaid. She speaks calmly, clasping her hands in front of her waist, "Good
evening. GNI has just received confirmation of breaking news coming out of the
Imperial Palace on Coruscant. Earlier today, Imperial news released the
following broadcast:"

[The anchor is replaced by a full-screen rebroadcast...]

The Imperial Cog rotates on a black screen as musical fanfare plays, before
fading out to the Throne Room of the Imperial Palace. The room is darkly lit,
with the black tinted windows to the sides and still air creating a rather
foreboding atmosphere. Atop a towering set of stairs sits the Imperial Throne,
a construction that is a sleek modern black, yet matches with the rest of the
room. Sitting atop the throne is a human male in his 30s, wearing black robes
underneath a battle-scarred chestplate, with a lightsaber hilt on his belt.

"Citizens of the galaxy, I am Adera-and-Varik Kai-Evelyn, Darth Invictus. Many
of you are wondering of the changes that have occurred within the Imperial
Palace this past day. I have led the Empire in the shadows through my Sith
Order, content to let Empress Niarem Zevon hold the reigns of power she
desired, until she crossed a line. That line was to induct the pirate Dalgas to
his former Trade Federation rank of Grand Admiral, with no repercussions or
punishment of any kind. This flagrant attempt to fly in the face of the
Empire's principles for an ill-placed sentimentality for the days of old could
not be allowed to stand. The Empire stands for law and order in this unruly
galaxy, and to maintain this security sacrifices must be made. The former
Empress has served her role as public leader for long enough and has been
permanently removed: I am Emperor now."

The human male stands from the throne and sweeps an arm across the room. "And
thus I make my first official decree: it is clear to me with Niarem Zevon's
actions that most non-humans who do not have the force are untrustworthy. Those
who have sworn loyalty to me and my Sith have earned my Empire's trust, but the
same cannot be said for the public. From here on, all non-humans, save for a
select few, are BARRED from enrolling in the Imperial Academy. This is but the
first of many sacrifices to ensure that the lawless element is purged from
Imperial worlds."

[The rebroadcast ends...]

The anchor nervously runs her hand along one of her head-tentacles as she
glances at an in-studio feed of the broadcast ending, then looks back to the
camera to continue, "Insider sources who asked to remain anonymous have
confirmed that the body of former Empress Niarem Zevon was seen being covered
and carried out of the Imperial throne room as damage indicative of both
blasters and lightsabers was being patched up. For more on the situation, we
turn to Sarom Vesob, reporting from Utapau."

The feed shifts to a tall Pau'an man standing in a busy plaza in Pau City
perched on the edge of its characteristic central sinkhole. He stands beside a
large statue, at least twice the natural size of a Pau'an, of the former
Empress. As depicted, her wide eyes look forward with determination, and her
tall, slender form, skin painted silver to be true to life, stands upright with
a forward lean, its right foot resting on a short pedestal.

The reporter speaks to the camera as hundreds are seen in the background
gathering near the statue, "Here on Utapau, Niarem Zevon has long been seen as
the clearest sign of the culture's influence on the galaxy at large. She was
born here to the Master of Port Administration and was immersed from an early
age in her parents' talent in local government and strict work ethic. She
showed particular skill in matters of negotiation was appointed Trade
Commissioner for the Arkanis sector. From there, as the Republic became mired
in the Sith War and neglected the worlds of the Outer Rim, she was a key figure
in forming what would become the Trade Federation. Her foresight and firm
approach to negotiation led to it becoming the dominant force in Galactic
politics, although her public image suffered as the Trade Federation carried
out increasingly aggressive military campaigns against Republic and independent
worlds and evidence spread of the organization's support and reliance on slave
labor. Having led the Trade Federation to victory, she announced its formal
transition ten years ago to the Galactic Empire and ruled with power from
Coruscant, overseeing a period of stability throughout the galaxy not seen
since before the Sith wars. Although her life took her far from Utapau, the
locals were often reminded of her presence and her popularity remained high due
to her impact on the welfare of the Outer Rim during the time of the Trade
Federation. She will no doubt go down in history as one of the most
significant, if controversial, figures of Galactic civilization."

The screen returns to the Chagrian anchor, who wraps up the lengthy report,
"The scene around the Imperial Palace, at first a flurry of curiosity, has
emptied out as the number guarding it has been doubled. Onlookers are being
strictly kept clear of the area and subjected to random identity checks. This
news will almost certainly impact nearly every corner of the galaxy, and GNI
will be here to keep you informed. From GNI's Coruscant news center, Leena
Ellirei reporting."
