SANDBOX

The Sandbox is a low-stakes interlude between timelines where most races are
free, levels and skills get auto-advanced, and gear flows like wine. Players
will have the opportunity to join one of three factions, participate in some
hopefully fun battles, and experiment with new builds while the staff prepares
for the next timeline. Players can join one of two warring factions to learn the
ropes of LOTJ's competitive elements like ground PK and UFG. HELP PERM is
suspended, meaning you can attack or be attacked for any and no reason, but
there are also specific non-PK planets to hang out on.

Exact details on sandbox vary from period to period, check recent CHANGES posts
for more specifics.

Sandboxes are largely an opportunity for players to catch their breath,
decompress after a busy timeline, and swap war stories. More importantly, it's
an opportunity for the staff to test out new code and put in all the leg work
that goes into setting up a new timeline (trust me, there is a lot).
