Whatever fancy ports muds use for mudding, I can’t seem to connect to at work. It isn’t just LOTJ, either. Is there a simple-ish way to get around this?

Does the telnet applet on the site not work either (I assume you tried it, but am just checking)?

I was at a school one time who blocked all ports (except for http of course) so I had to use an http tunnel client to get around it. Not sure what software I used at the time (it was free), but it worked. And I didn’t notice much of a slowdown either.

The TMC browser client uses mudconnector.com as a proxy. Might work. Flash sucks though.
