      New hunter skill idea:

      Tracking Beacon

Able to fix a beacon onto a ship and track it throughout the known Galaxy.

Tie’s in with the track skill. To make it so you can’t just do it with any ship, you actually have to have a beacon. This beacon is one-use only, and you have to either a: make more, b: buy more, or c: get someone to make you one. Tracking beacon works similar to locate-ship, but it doesn’t tell you ship owner or any of that other information, it just tells you where the ship is currently at. Critics are welcome, and expanding the idea is also welcome.

Been brought up before numerous times. Personally, I see this more of an Espionage skill than a BH skill.

      That’s just me though.

I don’t think this is something that anyone is giving any kind of serious consideration unfortunately.

I think locateship is too… easy. I’m a massive fan of anything that forces players to plant a beacon before tracking whatever ship to whatever corner of the galaxy it might be in.

I like the idea of having both.

Normal locateship checks the registries of PUBLIC pads and will tell you the last docking location and whether or not the ship is still there. With the level 150 feat it will give you the distance and the name of the pad, regardless of being public or not. It also obviously gives the name of the ship and the owner.

The beacon would give you the name of the pad (maybe?) and the distance in sectors. Even just the distance in sectors would be cool. It would not tell you if the ship was currently docked. It would not list registration information. Having the beacons player-made only, installed by espionage mains and monitored by slicers would help to keep them from being overpowered. Espis make the most sense to stick them on, but the high number of characters who can get high (or even 150) espi and slicing makes me like the idea of putting another main on the job. They also need to be able to be located and removed, though not with a 100% success rate, by a high level espionage/smuggler/something. That way there would be many downsides to using a tracking beacon, and the obvious upside would be that the name of the ship isn’t needed in order to keep an eye on it, so sneaky-quick name changes wouldn’t help.

Yes, I [b:u87f5fe1]know[/b:u87f5fe1] this has all been suggested before in multiple threads, but it always gets a lot of positive comments for a couple days and then gets forgotten. So here it is again.
