I’m not sure how many times this has been brought up, but is anyone else irritated that it’s possible to lookup ships at random based on their model?
You can locateship Imperial and typically do it repeatedly to find the names of 3-4 different Imperial Star Destroyers. It takes a lot of the fun out of things of having a Surprise! Rebel Fleet (SRF) or a Surprise! Imperial Superweapon (SIS).
Perhaps if we required full names only for lookups, it could stop players from having this idiotic conversation on 0:
Tool1: OMFG FOUND UR SRF
Tool2: No, u have a SIS, and omfg it blows up planets.

Yep. This is another reason I favor the beacon concept, you can’t locate a ship you haven’t already seen. Too many people will randomly start locating to find ships they suspect exist. People really shouldn’t be able to compile a list of every ship in a fleet without so much as seeing a single ship from it.

I would be in favor of this as well (both beacons and being able to locate only by ship name and not ship model).

I’ve said this before as well. And I agree to both, tracking beacons as well as only being able to find ships by name not type.

I like both. Locateship working only with registered names of ships, yes please. Tracking beacons giving people a better way to tale ships they’ve seen before, yes please.
Honestly, I’d like if the ships were registered with different major clans. The rebels should have to rely much more on player spies than the Empire does. The Rebels shouldn’t have as much useful information in easily accessible databases as the Empire does. Something to better simulate the fact that the latter is a GALACTIC SUPERPOWER.
Maybe do something like… ships capital class or larger (like deathstars….) can only be located by members of that clan, their allies, or by pinging a beacon. And you’d need to get on board in order to place the beacon, so there’s another thing for spies to do. Would be awesome, right?!

Except that Capitalrules prevent random Joe Shmoe Rebel Spy from getting on board any unmanned ship while any manned ship is likely to just blow everyone into space dust if the hangars get hacked.
Nice idea in principle, but impractical with current rules and code.

I like the challenge of getting onto cappies. I’ve stolen a lot this TL, and that’s with the capshiprules in effect.

Not being able to locate a ship you haven’t seen is silly. Do it by full name.

I meant spies in the LotJ sense, not just people who are spying. IE. Characters with a spyapp. Rebel spies will be invited onto Imperial cappies with open arms, provided they’re members of the Empire.
