Texting server?

Ok. I got this novel idea, but I’m not sure if it’s totally my own, or if it’s already been shot down, or if it is even possible, so bear with me. I’m thinking it would be great to have a sort of texting server running, to send the latest news reports to our phones, so we know what’s going down while we’re away. Maybe even a separate server for clans? But people of course would have to learn to transfer these ooc alerts to Ic, but I think it’s doable. Or maybe it isn’t? Or maybe it would be to darn expensive. I still want to hear thoughts. 😀

It would be possible and not particularly difficult to let people subscribe to news updates via SMS

receive text when you have unread mudmail?

Not just that, but maybe if you could go onto player tools on the website and click receive text for GNI News updates… Changes to the mud… unread mudmail etc etc etc?

That would be pretty cool. Clan leaders could rally troops when in need of support. Its 2am…Bad guys are raiding Tatooine, while Good guys sleep. Good guys freak out, send out an alarm,  texting the clan. 20 people log in.

So do you guys just want a way to put in your phone # and receive an SMS every time we publish a new thing with the “news” command? Maybe the option to get “changes” updates too?
