I’ve noticed a lot of the time when people are introduced into capture scenarios after a battle there becomes an issue of removing their equipment. Some people can’t do this, because you need the smuggling skill ‘steal’, even if they’re out of it.

It seems to me that there’s not much a person can do to stop you if they’re mortally wounded or unconscious. Why not create a command that loots their stuff? <!– s:P –><!– s:P –>

Something like strip, or loot.

Which would also increase incentive for pirate characters.

Thoughts?

I think it is the way it is in an effort to reduce the amount of easy mugging.

Truth. I can see way too much potential for abuse if someone could just field strip an incapacitated player all at once. Most people who do arrests and stuff are usually capable of hitting enough smuggling to get steal anyway even if they can’t adept it. Even if they can’t, they know someone who can. Besides, field stripping a prisoner should only become an option if they are being uncooperative as per Jail Guidelines.

You show me one jailor that doesn’t more or less strip a prisoner even if they go willingly. Either way if you get arrested its almost 100% certain that most of your stuff is going to be put in a locker and the excuse "Its for their and our safety" is going to be used.

Mugging is illegal as help mugging says, anyone who’s played more than a few days knows this. Its a good idea but the odds of it being abused in this regard are quite high as are alot of commands in the game. Perhaps add a large time delay to it, you can stop the stripping of said individual but nothing its placed in your inventory until the full duration of the delay. A delay time of 2 minutes wouldn’t be unreasonable. Mugging is generally people targeting a few specific items, not your whole inventory so it does have some pro’s to it.
The quicker you can strip a prisonner the less you have to put up with "wtf, just perm me already;God, are you going to rp at all?!;AFK six hours while i get a drink because i’m upset i got caught", which i know certainly annoys the shit out of me when i’m spending 20 minutes trying to steal all their gear twice.

Pro-tip your prisoners will appreciate: steal the items off them once so everything winds up in their inventory, then hit them. They’ll get re-stunned and drop everything in their inventory. Ta-da, you just saved them half of that time you’d normally spend stripping them.

The whining is already bad enough, reapply the stun duration or making them bleed just leads to more grief. Its funny how they consider getting stunned and moved to a more secure area as "Such bad rp", which is a laugh. Suck it up people, no-one’s immortal… except maybe Orion <!– s:lol: –><!– s:lol: –>

If people are going to field strip a prisoner and stuff it all in a locker that the prisoner doesn’t own without even giving them a chance, that’s against the rules. The only reason the prisoner should not be given his own locker is if that prisoner is being uncooperative. Any "this is for your own safety and our safety" bullshit pretty much equates to Clan-Sponsored Mugging which is still mugging which is still against the rules… unless, as I have said, the prisoner is deliberatly making themselves a pain in the ass. I’ll agree, though, that for the most part, people will strip a stunned player anyway and then have them open a locker. However, this is not 100% the case. I have seen a few instances (yes during this timeline) where people would just take the prisoner’s holster, backup holster, comlink(s), datapad(s), and container(s), have the prisoner open a locker, have the prisoner "remove all" and then "put all locker," the officer then puts the stuff he took in the locker, prisoner closes the locker. It actually works well. You should try it sometime.

If people are going to bitch and whine and go emo over an arrest, that’s their problem… not the problem of the person who is field stripping them. Besides, if that person really had a valid complaint for being stunned for so long, they would have called the Imms anyway. The fact of the matter is this: Yes. Mugging is illegal. Does that stop people from trying? No. Regardless of what you say, unless a person new to the mud is going to go over every rule in the help files, chances are, he or she is not going to know about mugging. It’s an easy mark for people who would try anyway…. why give them the ability to do it easier? Hell, why even have the temptation for easily mugging someone in 1 second and getting away before someone is able to report you? I stand by my choice: An Emphatic No. Otherwise we’ll see a bunch of douchebags doing blackjack -> field strip -> hail hotel -> save -> quit. No no no

Usually what I do if I’m in a major clan and dealing with a fairly run-of-the-mill type arrest is take someone to the jail, field strip them, and then wake them and tell them to buy a locker. If they do anything other than buy a locker, they get stunned and the shit goes in someone else’s locker. Usually I keep a locker in the jail so I can dump my inv into it to make sure there’s no cross-contamination of stuff.

I’ve seen way too many people suicide or pull a weapon and masspwn everyone to ever want to do it any other way.

If they’re highly important or a forcer, I won’t ask them for cooperation. Their shit’s going in someone else’s locker, preferably outside the clan base or at least on another floor.

I never said it wasn’t going into their own locker and that the jailor was deliberately putting their stuff in someone elses locker for the captive to have problems getting it back.
What Fishy said is the average procedure i follow.
The odds of a new person going out and committing a mugging are so low its barely even worth mentioning, if they do it the targeted character is liable to report it and their stuff will be returned and the offender will be disciplined accordingly. I thought i made the comment of a time delay on the command a big thing, even if said offender does log off they’re still at the mercy of immortal intervention. Disciplining isn’t restricted to when you’re online, you can be offline for hours and your character can still be moved/modified at immortal/admin discretion.
As the predominant amount of players know, mugging is illegal so you don’t see so much of it, and if you do it falls back on the victim to report it and have the situation rectified. You’re responsible for your character, you can’t have your hand held for the entire time you play. Theres alot of rules and some are always going to be broken, if your concerns are reported then things will be remedied, i don’t understand your emphatic no to what is essentially just a slightly quicker/less tedious way to strip people who are going to have their shit removed either way.

Step 1) Return ‘osay’ to stunned people
Step 2) Add a config +quickstrip
Step 3) add a stripvictim command that requires them to be unconscious and have quickstrip turned on

I can’t speak for everyone else but if someone captures me… No way am I making their job easy for them. But then, anyone who knows my history with cells should know that. =p

Unless I’m seriously missing something.. Altrez didn’t say anything in his post about making stripping faster.. he just said it shouldn’t require the steal command. And I totally agree.

If I have a hunter who can’t steal (and there are definitely "hunter" races that won’t get steal with a BH main..), I’m not going to wake my captives up for RP before I kill them. I’d be much happier about doing so if I could take away their comlinks and any backup weapons they might have first…

And as for mugging, it’s against the rules whether the player who does it is at least level 40 smuggling or no more than level 1 anything. Not putting this in isn’t going to stop the people who plan on doing it anyway, and putting it in isn’t going to make the people who wouldn’t suddenly think it’s a good idea. I understand the arguments against the uberquickonesecondstrip, but like I said, that isn’t my understanding of what Altrez was asking for.

PS.

So they can blackjack you with it later? Nah.

Why not make strip clan-only, as only clans have true jails? Maybe make it an empowerment or something?
