Star wars GPS tracking!

I got the idea from something I saw in an IC advertisement/ some of the cannon tech like the hand-held holo transmitters.
The way I imagine it working would be like a combination of beacons and the geonosis combat thing that tracks which areas have been captured.
You’d scan someone with the device, and then you’d be able to see which room they were in so long as 1) They carried transmitter to the device and 2) You had the receiver. It would show you Which room or which planet the signal was last picked up on.
So for instance you are an important diplomat subject to kidnap, you give the Jedi the Receiver and you take the transmitter. Sith capture you and dump or break the transmitter on Lorrd. The last known readings were Lorrd so when the Jedi go to find you it would show your last location as Lorrd.
Not even sure if its physically possible but the star wars tech is there.
