I feel like for balance purposes that the level for sneak needs to be raised significantly. I would say that it would be better at level 50 instead of 5 where it is currently. Hiding is easier to do than sneaking effectively, which is why that skill would remain where it is.
Also, there should be a feat, not sure if it would be leadership or smuggling, but it would be called “hire snitch.” Allows the character with the feat to call a stationary mob that yells out when somebody enters a room. You could make it 15-20k to call, and have it be 50 rds so it really isn’t something you’d do on the fly in a combat situation, more of a lookout skill.

Yes. The fact that everyone and their mother can pretty much sneak is ridiculous. I think making this happen would make combat in the mud a LOT more interesting, as there would be a lot less ninja bullshit.
As for the feat, it sounds like a good idea to me overall. I think that would increase the usefulness of a smuggler by far, which they could definitely use.

I love the sneak idea, with regards to the snitch it would be nice if you could order it around like any other mob and have it stay put in a room. If the snitch had a comlink with a channel you’d given him he’d then report on that channel whenever anyone enters the room with him as well.

You can already easily get one of those beacon things that screams when someone comes into the room, sneaking or not.
Some races have low smuggling, but it’d be good, I agree. Although smuggling could use some more smuggling skills.

Beacons only alert the room you’re in. The purpose of hire snitch (and it’s pretty clear in the OP) that the snitch would yell (using the yell command), which can be heard from multiple rooms away. The usefulness of that is offset by the fact that you’d be using a feat to get a basically upgraded version of the beacon.

I think that your smuggling level in general should effect your ability to see someone enter the room. Sneak should be put up to 30. the higher you smuggling, the better you are at sneaking and detecting those who are sneaking.

Drives me bonkers to see everyone and their mother sneaking around, sign me up.

I love the Original Idea proposed by Zero. And the feat, ya, I would jump on that on my smuggling. He would be so useful in so many operations. However, at the same time a snitch would also alert the people that you are there and thus they’d know someone is sneaking around and thieving around here. So it would be tricky.
