(NEWBIE) Kane: using a datapad, they can create computer viruses, it takes ages to write the code, and theres no guarantee itll work, but they can try to interface with computers and upload the virus(NEWBIE) Kane: so it screws with the systems, that also gives rise to them being able to code firewalls, after all, theres no better protection that a firewall made by a hacker
(NEWBIE) Kane: well, lets say they manage to interface with another starships computer, they upload the virus, immediate engines shutdown
(NEWBIE) Kane: and of course, the fact that theres several systems to a ship means they can code viruses to do almost anything
(NEWBIE) Kane: yes, it could also be used to try and deactivate planetary defence systems, and completely MESS UP bank systems
(NEWBIE) Kane: also, the signal trace idea is good, slicers could scramble a signal before they use a datapad or comlink, making it harder for other slicers to trace
(NEWBIE) Kane: aye, for example, i doubt stormtroopers frequency would be public, so hackers could scan for alien signals, attempt to identify and label it, then hack into it
(NEWBIE) Kane: or, when you hack in, the system attempts to trace your signal, which means the longer you spend listening, the higher the chance youll be caught out
(NEWBIE) Kane: which then means it’s up to you to decide how long you listen
(NEWBIE) Kane: failed hack attempts shouldnt notify anyone, rather it should be stored on a log showing exactly which terminal attempted to gain access, if someone is at the terminal at the time they COULD also activate security cameras, that would then immediately identify the person using the terminal
(NEWBIE) Kane: it would be realistic, half the time the hacked party doesnt have a clue whos doing it even if they do manage to trace the location
(NEWBIE) Kane: which is where the cameras come in[/quote:rri9yy0v]
Some good ideas in here
