Hows about a skill which masks the users identity whenever they use comlinks, holotransmitters and etc?

      We’ll call it "Tirhin".

Covering Armor, change speaking tone, change textcolor.

      Done.

The point isn’t that it can be done via other means; there are six different ways to open locked doors. The point is to give slicers some more fun tools to play with.

Imo, the skill would stay applied all the time in the background so even if you saw a bothan in person, you’d see something else on comms.

      Breach, Blastdoor, Doorbash, Doorcut, Short.

      Five ways.

More than one way to skin an Avanga though.

Pick Ship Lock will also pick non-keypad doors. =p

It sounds good. Might need quite a bit of code tweaking, but it would be interesting, although there’s a lot of ways to do it already, as Kirash pointed out.

      I haven’t seen a non-keypad door since forever…

There used to be one in the Academy, haven’t seen once since though.

Nnno! That was a minefield of a comment that will spark the inevitable debate it always does. Please don’t derail this thread cuz the idea is awesome and I want it so bad <!– s:( –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!– s:( –>

Virtual disguise would be awesome. It could require an item, sort of how the smuggler version of disguise works, but it’d probably suffice to have a &lt;whatever&gt; modulated datapad in your inventory, plus an encryptable comlink. And, of course, would only work over digital channels. Possibly only audio channels… but the more I think about using it over holo-transmitters the more I like it. Maybe it’s a level 80 skill but you can’t use it at a holo-transmitted until level 100 or 110. Or something.

Hate to rain on your parade but this is truly just a terrible idea. All it does is encourage idiot slicers to hurf blurf and troll on zero in lieu of actually doing things.

Idiot smugglers can already hurf blurf all they want. As can any idiot freshly rolled, throw-away, hurf blurfing newbie character. Add a timer to set it up like with disguise if you want to gimp it a little. I don’t think it should be as long since it doesn’t give you as much disguise. You can’t walk around with your digital disguise up. It does have practical uses, hurf blurf aside, such as getting around an identify checkpoint.

Like what? Spamming showplanet over and over because all clans want them for these days are the ping feat? Slicer is an awesome class that is underpowered unless you try to twink it out by maining espionage and hitting high slicer. Power to the slicer main. I like Avanga’s idea.

slicers are meant for herf-derfing, they are a class full of HACKING skills. As Asmo once said, blame the tards, not the skills at their disposal. Slicers need to be able to stand alone as a class, not be a welcome accessory to others. The fact that they’re only wanted for one OP feat proves just how badly t they need more practical skills.

      Lift hacking too.

Virtual disguise just sounds like a shitty coded version of disguise/wearing covered armor and get used solely for being a douchebag on 0. But since your argument is &quot;the purpose of slicers is to be douchebags on 0&quot;, maybe I should just change my argument to &quot;the purpose of pilot mains is to murder every suspected slicer main&quot;.

I think voices on comlinks should sound like ‘a raspy baritone’ or ‘an inhuman chittering hiss (Josephine the Verpine)’. You should not be able to outright determine a person’s race just from hearing a soundbyte of them unless you’re damn familiar with that race and their language. I’m all for custom voice descriptions overlaid with (not replaced by) the dub/greet you might have on said char. Covering armor should give you a means to set the vdesc for it like a vdescarmor command. Anyway, that being said…

Yes, I agree slicers some have some skill to mask your voice on a comlink. You can do that with modern day 2011 signal processing software. I don’t know if they should be able to impersonate someone or something. Maybe just have it be:

CommNet 0 [-a masked voice-]: Darth Vader is such a jerk!
