We all know certain spaceports get extremely cluttered with ships, and you dread typing look in fear of blinding yourself with bright cyan. Here’s the solution: config +shipbrief.
In short, when this config is activated the mud stacks ship names instead of displaying each one. So instead of showing each and every ship on a landing pad it’ll show:YT-1300 Light Freighter [9] GR-75 Medium Transport [4]
Arakyd CloakShape Fighter [20]Etcetera, etcetera. This sort of follows the model used with unfinished frames in engineering firm garages, and rightly so. The ships look identical, why should you see each and every one? I think this would be useful for multiple reasons: Less blinding spaceports, less spam for players, less lag for the mud, overall coolness. Not to mention how this is common sense. You can’t exactly walk into a spaceport and see the name of every single ship blasted in your face, can you? No, you see a bunch of ships that look identical, and if you want to investigate further, you type config -shipbrief and spam yourself all you like.

Im actually all for this but the balace nut in me screams what about the purpose of spam? Sometimes people park there ship so a land or launch isnt noticed right away. But iff you scroll back you will easily notice 1 new cloak or 1 less and so on. Other then that I love this idea.

I would make it a toggle that just turns on whether or not to display ships at all to avoid that issue entirely. Always display ships the player owns or can pilot/copilot/crew, but if the toggle is on, don’t display any other ships in the room when looking. Then those who don’t want the spam don’t have to see it, and those looking for ships don’t get too much of an unfair advantage in quickly spotting changes. Or instead of showing a count for the ship stacks, show a more vague counter like "a few [ship types]" for 1-4, "some [ship types]" for 5-12, "many [ship types]" for 13+ of the same ship type, and have that only update when the planet resets not when the ships actually take off or land, to avoid abuse.
