I was thinking to myself about maybe having the possibility of faking your ship status/info profiles. This was something that was pretty common with fringe freighters (Wild Kardde comes to mind) to make themselves appear less threatening when smuggling cargo or more threatening when they were beset by smaller ships.
Going in line with this, I think it would be cool to be able to make hidden modifications to your ship provided you have the quota. Virtually any component could become a hidden component including hull and shields.

This sounds good, although not sure if shields and hull could be added, but cargo pods for sure (Episode 4, wink wink, nudge nudge), and some special things, like cloaking device, and so on. It would bring smugglers and other people more to do.
It would also bring more opportunities for smugglers, if it would be coded so that ships with 50+ scanners can check ships for living can also check their cargo, that with these, they’d be able to avoid such checkpoints.
Of course, if you’d do status from somewhere within the ship, would it perhaps be possible to find that hidden cargo, whatever?
