      I was puzzling over another problem when a thought occurred to me about how we could make security more interesting.

      It would be neat if a ship that has been secured can tell if they are being pinged. If you are currently flying a ship that has been secured, there’s a variety of ways it can react to being pinged. There would be a skill check of the pinger against the pinged ship.

      If the pinger fails the security check and the pilot is a master slicer, the pinger does not receive the distance. The master slicer is informed they have been pinged, and is also informed of the distance to the pinger.

      If the pinger fails the security check and the pilot is not a master slicer, the pinger receives the distance. The pilot is informed they have been pinged.

      If the pinger passes the security check, the pinger receives the distance. Depending on the pinger’s skill relative to the security, the pilot may be informed.

      If the pinger overwhelmingly passes the security check, the pinger receives the distance. The pilot is not informed.

      It would add a new level of complexity to the whole pingship cat and mouse, I think it would be fun.

      I like this idea too actually. Obviously there should be a couple of restrictions, such as the notification that you’ve been pinged only working in the cockpit or pilot’s seat, but sounds worth looking into.

      I really wish security rating would factor into hack/protect_account as well instead of having protect_account be a permanent fixture.
