I came up with this idea the day after we opened up staff apps and the more I think about it, the more i like it.
—–
Event IMMThe LOTJ Event Imm will be a two month rotating position whose sole purpose will be to plan, organize, and execute events both big and small.
This imm will be expected to both come up with event ideas and solicit them from players, prepare event plans, coordinate/direct BuildPort builders as needed, and then execute the events. The event imm will work with the rest of the staff throughout the process for both support and oversight.
This position will not have access to immchat, IC channels, or log channels.
Basic building skills (or better) are not required but they do help (we will train/help you as needed). All you truly need for this position is a desire to plan and run fun events!
—–The staff would pick this position every two or three or however many months from a pool of applications or queue or whatever. I have no problems paying out points based on # of events and size/quality.

Will these be pure fun based events or reward type events. If pure fun events I love this idea. If a reward is involved how much admin oversight will be in play?

I believe I pitched this idea before in the LOTJ feedback thingy, and hell yes we need this. This sort of thing is already put into place with MUSH’s, to organize things for people to get involved with and not just stand around doing the same old cantina scene.
I think with LOTJ it would be a little more complex but just as successful as long as people are willing to come out and participate.
If there are rewards involved it should have to do with the latter. Everyone who participates gets a small point gift, or something like that. Novelty/rp items would be okay too.
Depending on peoples schedules and things you might have to invent a sort of OOC message board RSVP cue. Like
event list(1) [6:00PM EST Friday] Jabba’s grand celebration
event read 1
Then it would show what to expect at the event, for example is it: Combat based? RP? Casual?
Summary of event:
IC Location:And then people know what’s going on, and where to go. These could even be put in place at cantinas under the form of the bartender sharing rumours of things with you.

I don’t see any particular reason to schedule the events. I doubt that everyone’s gonna stop and hold hands just because there’s an event like you might be expecting or wanting, Altrez.

Not all of them should be scheduled. Logically, and ICly some would have to be.
Your doubt is irrelevant.

I’m in favor of it. Could they have the ability to review old event apps so that some of the really good ones could get used?….like mine? 😀

We’re getting started with this! People will send in apps, including an example of how they would plan and execute an event, and the staff will select from those for the first rotation.

Excited for this.
And I forgot to mention – when Walldo says “Basic building skills (or better) are not required but they do help (we will train/help you as needed). All you truly need for this position is a desire to plan and run fun events!”, don’t let it put you off even if your understanding of building is minimal at best – event runners will have the full support of the build team when and where they need it.
Cheers,
Ralen.
