There should be a command where once a real-time week you can reward someone for their roleplay. You can build it into the formula for a character’s on-death point reward. Something like an extra 50 points toward the 3500 cap. When you use it, you get confirmation and maybe the recipient gets a “You’ve been rewarded for your RP by another player!’ message.

Biggest problem I see here is people always rewarding their OOC buddies to farm points.

Have only 3 people be able to bestow you the honor so long as you have any certain character, and the character must qualify for at least 1200 points?

This sort of thing is a mechanic in a lot of MUSH’s, but instead of points it acts as experience to boost your character sheet. It’s because MUSH’s don’t have mobs to farm for exp.
One MUSH I played would ask for a little clip of the RP or a reason as to why you ‘voted’ for the person. At the end of the week the votes tallied, I think there might have been a cap to about 11 per person or something, and translated into experience.
Points seems a bit trickier because characters can live a long time, and if there’s a cap of however many people, what’s the point waiting a year for it? Players are already farming characters for points, so this could also be a cheap way to boost your farming crops.
Roll up, scene with 11 people for the boost, fall down a flight of stairs, repeat.
(But I’m pretty sure that the imms do hand out points when they witness great roleplay scenes or organized events, or just cool stuff sometimes.)

I think it would be good, even if you remove the “reward” part of it. I think it would be nice to know how many RP points you’ve been awarded as a feel warm and toasty reward v. point farming from your AOL buddies or they many other ways to do it.
Like Altrez, I played a MUDD that gave your RP points, but in this one they weren’t for rewards. Maybe that can be something the RP council looks at, or the IMM’s at the end of TL’s. If they know of a instance where you were awesome, I’m sure they’d reward you anyways.
On the other hand, if you had a RP reward, why not have a RP deduction. So that you know how other people feel about your RP actions. It would help those of us, including me, who aren’t always 100% good at RP to improve. Especially if you can leave a comment as to why your RP was dinged.

I can definitely see this being abused, but I can see it encouraging good roleplay as well. but what’s wrong with just logging whatever you see as good RP, and then emailing it to the Imms for them to decide? Maybe even rpc?

In a game I play/played, there was a command that was RPNOMINATE.
Players could use this command anytime to RPNOMINATE a character, and retrospectively it would then be seen by GMs at some point. Said GMs were then able to peek in and watch/observe said nominated player and sometimes reward them if they felt the RP was worthwhile.
Perhaps something similar, as opposed to a channel talk or something about someone. This way it could be done somewhat anonymously as well for others

how about we stop all this nonsense and all agree that I’m the greatest and best roleplayer there is and ever will be, and just give me all the points?
No but really, I think this would be a cool idea, even if only as a warm & toasty award as previously mentioned, or at least a way of knowing if people think you’re good or if they think you suck. And more importantly, one more way of sizing our e-peens over OOC.
Or, if it went the hardcore points route, Bang’s idea sounds best in my opinion. Well, at least, it sounds like the option with the least chance of being abused by buttbuddies. I guess it’d just depend on whether or not imms could or would take time to watch some RP. I’m still relatively new, so I dunno how much creepin imms do around here.

It’s a great idea in concept, but I’ve seen too many muds with this that always ends up in favoritism. It really doesn’t matter if the player gives the points, or the GM, the people who nominate will more than likely still be buddies. And taking everything into consideration from the game, it might be a bit much for immortals to be able to handle development apps, apps, clan stuff and all of the other things they have on their plate. Maybe if the reward didn’t really give you benefits in game (points), just a recognition of sorts, it’d be different.

One other option is to add a Sub-Forum in the Forums labeled Galactic Kudos or something along those lines.
It gives players an outlet to post warm fuzzies about someone else’s RP and just basically acts a pat on the back or a whole “Hey, I had fun and enjoy your RP so keep it up!” kinda thing.
And everything can see the posts and get all warm and fuzzy inside too…
