I’m just putting the idea out here for a high level slicing/espionage or something skill that will make it impossible to look a ship up with locateship.

To make it realistic, I expect that such vessels would be treated as criminals by most governments in the galaxy, and so there would be an incentive NOT to do it, but there should be the ability, in my opinion, to make a ship ‘disappear’.

In order to get it back on the registry, you should have to take it to the same place you take ships to be made into taxis, and then add them back in, or in orbit of such planets for capital ships.

It would be good if this could be done from the cockpit of the ship, too, perhaps even stolen ships. But they would still show up on the owner’s datapad.

This is a pretty bad idea. The fact that it would be treated hostile wouldn’t mean squat if they weren’t able to locate to track(With pingship or simply just be waiting for it to land).

Uhm, yeah, that’s the point. People would have to actually come near civilised planets in order to get caught.

I like it. It’d be a little more like the gung-ho days of old. Shooting down anything that might be an enemy.

Of course, I doubt many people would want to use it if that were the case… unless there were a way to toggle it on and off, which would be kinda OP.

It’d definitely be worth considering if the rest of the slicer stuff gets an overhaul. I’d love to see a lot of stuff done with ship registries, transponders, tracking and homing beacons, stuff like that… if all of that were in, it’d be a lot more feasible.

I love this idea. Two new slicer skills.
      Level 25: Registership
      Level 150: Unregistership

      – All new ships are auto-registered upon building completion.
      – Both skills work either standing outside the ship or in the ship’s cockpit. (To accommodate capitals)
      – If a ship is unregistered, it simply returns the failed locateship message endlessly.
      – Registership must be used either while landed at a Transponder point or in orbit of one. (Capitals)

All I can say is nobody would ever, ever corner me in any ship if this were implemented right now.

That’s the point. Space is big. Very big. Unimaginable big and so very empty. Why SHOULD they be able to find you with just a datapad and a feat, if you choose not to located?

      Because the alternative is incredibly boring. <!– s:lol: –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing" /><!– s:lol: –>

Not being able to get people that run away is incredibly boring? I think it would add a bit more importance to grav-well generators. I expect military vessels would be unregistered so that you cannot detect where the enemy fleet is without good intelligence.

I see both sides of this coin. On the one hand, it sucks that there is nowhere, at all, in the game to hide at. It is IMPOSSIBLE to hide unless you have a hidden sector and constantly rename your ships and are extremely careful with your navcharts.

On the other hand, everyone hiding forever is boring as hell.

I’d say no on this one. As nice as an idea as this is would be, it’s not practical and too game breaking.

In interest of balance, definitely no.

And having said that, there are plenty of places to hide in the game. I did it for an era – of course I was eventually caught because I got cocky. But nonetheless, it definitely can be done. It’s not extremely difficult to do.

How about something simple. Though both suggested names are crappy

High Level Slicer Skill: Protectship: When locateship is performed, it does not reveal the location of the ship (Location: Unknown). The ship is deleted from typical landing bay records, making it impossible to track by conventional means. Costs money.

High Level Espionage Skill: Trackship: The agent uses his underworld connections to track down and reveal the location of the ship to the public. Removes the ‘protectedship’ flag.

The idea being to have a sort of rock, paper, scissors thing, making both slicer and espionage mains more useful in a clan.

I can’t believe that this thread has been around this long and no one’s thought of an obvious compromise: have the skill wipe ONLY the most recent landing (the displaying of distance would be unchanged).

That would be pretty neat if you could hide a ship with a hangar out in deep space. You could land ships on it, and it wouldn’t show what kind of ship they’ve landed on at least, or even that they have landed on a ship at all.
