First, to the IMM’s, would it be possible to code race specific abilities such as the Verpins ability to use radio frequencies to talk back and forth amongst them selves with out ever showing outward signs of speech? And secondly to the mud players, who thinks this would be a rather fun and neat way to make better RP? If any one would like to do some research to help, try and put up a list of abilities for the races already on the mud thanks in advance. For now I will start with my two favorite races and there known abilities.

[b:715185ez]Mon Calamari[/b:715185ez]: Water breathing, (I think that has already been coded.)

[b:715185ez]Verpine[/b:715185ez]: using radio frequencies to talk amongst them selves without ever outwardly showing it. (I would suggest the code work like clan chat where any verpine can hear it, or a sayto <name of verpine> so you can talk directly to any verpine whom you know.)

Any one wanting to do research, can add names and special race abilities to the list, if they care to. I was just thinking once again how neat it would be to be able to have race special abilities or at least one if that race has more then one. Thank you for your time and willing ness to read this and remember I like any feedback, good or bad.

There are race specific abilities already:

Different kinds of health regeneration for races, water breathing, infrared vision, ability to turn invisible (sorta). I like the Verpine one, but it could use some improving. Perhaps make it so that Verpines can hear what people speak in their comlinks, despite ambience? It’s really only vaguely related to their racial trait of sensing radio waves or whatever, but it’d be cool nonetheless. Or perhaps give races that have tails, Barabels and Trandoshans for example, an ability to evade bash. It would be harder for them to lose balance since a tail helps to maintain it.

      First I would like to point out, trandoshans dont have tails <!– s:P –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!– s:P –>

Secondly naq alot of races have race specific abilities. Lorrdians can talk and no one but lorrdians see it. Defel can camoflague themselves and go invis. Mon cal vurk quarren all breath underwater. Barabel get more hp and a bonus -100 ac Toydarians and darktroopers can fly. I can keep going…

      I was thinking of another race then, but the point remains <!– s:P –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!– s:P –>

Many races, hell a lot of them shouldn’t even be &quot;races&quot; have things they shouldn’t have in the first place (Alderaanians, Corellians etc…they’re all humans). Mandalorians aren’t a race, they’re a group of multiple races and have no reason to have regen…Go figure…However, a lot of the races in SW seem to have &quot;night vision&quot; sight, yet races like Jawas don’t. In fact, many of the races in my opinion need to be reworked anyways..There are a ton of races that are known to be &quot;beautiful&quot; or have pheromones that raise their charisma, yet only get like a +2 to charisma while other races get +5’s to stats that they aren’t really even known for. Anyways…overall I think that yes, the OP has a point…many races need their specific perks…however, the problem is larger than that imho and extends to the stats themselves. *shrugs* Just my opinion though

Let’s give rodians +6 to con since they’re a hunting race. PLZ PLZ?

Give the multiple-armed races more then one hold/wield location. Like Quermian and Besalisk

In the greater scope, it’s pretty difficult to characterize any race. You look at a description of most of the races out there, and some should have +30 to pretty much everything, while others should be pretty well useless for everything. Sadly, there’s a line that needs to be drawn between faithfulness to the SWU and balance…

Although, I will agree that racial gimmicks are a great bonus and can do a lot to set a character apart RP-wise. Races like Zeltrons could have a weak seduce command that works on mobs of the opposite sex or whatever.
