Ya’ll might have heard that we are working on a new website for LotJ. It will largely be cosmetic, with an emphasis on information and usability.

I’m building it around WordPress, which is a blogging platform. This really lets us get creative with what we can do, there really is not much limitation.

Here is a list of some new features I’ve been planning –
-An "IC" news page. I have been working on a new NEWS command mud-side that will function like CHANGES does. We’ll then be able to display IC news on a ‘GNI’ esque page on the website.
-A better ‘story’ page to keep track of what’s happened in the era.
-Better intigration of web tools like Mantis and the Quotes database.
      -Retheming the forums

I’d like to use this thread to brainstorm ideas and such you’d like to see on the website.

Anonymous subforum-type area for the posting of backstories and character-based stories and things?

Better integration with the Wiki? I don’t know how feasible it is (I’ve never messed with WordPress or the back-end of MediaWiki), but having the IC news page sync with the Wiki’s ([url:223dcxvi]http://www.legendsofthejedi.com/wiki/LotJWiki:Current_events[/url:223dcxvi]) would be awesome. Ditto for the more in-depth storyline pages.

What I always thought was one of the major reasons people visited the website, is the album. Maybe an improved album of gridded small pictures that enlarge under the cursor and work as a link for improved linking of a specific player’s picture or something. Something to erase the painful loadtime and scrolling down half a mile to find your ugly.

Would it be possible to link the wiki’s newest additions to a small box somewhere on the webpage? People, from what I know, rarely visit the lotjwiki but this could be something to catch your interest in it.

Maybe a status of the MUD window where an IMM can write a comment on it being down, for example:
      _______________________
Status of the Mud
OFFLINE

Down because of an
account bug

-Troll
______________________

And what I definitely want to see is an editable table for racial modifiers and a list of races available that link to the table.

Perhaps even make a "Guides" section where we can copypaste some useful helpfiles, not to erase whole purpose of lotjwiki’s existence, but to draw it just a little bit closer to the common pbase.

Edit: That box formatted like crap, ignore it.

You can always use pmwiki, and just convert the mediawiki database over to it.

It has blogging capabilities too, and I think you can integrate a forum software with it..

I think a lot of that could be done a lot better just with integration with the Wiki. It already has the capability; it already has a lot of the material. Plus, it wouldn’t take imms to write… if you added up all of the Wiki pages that have been done by imms, it probably wouldn’t even be a third; that’s the beauty of the system.

Either way, I’d like to know if there’s a way for the Wiki to steal information from the game, but I think that’s more of a Rojan question than a Walldo one. Adding a third table for races by modifier(s)–there are already tables for races by name and by cost/deposit–and then making them self-updating would be pretty sexy.

At this point, its very feasible to get any system to steal information from the MUD. It may take some work, but you can really output anything you want.

One of the things I liked about the website was the Timeline Information tab. I would like to see that kept in the new one and hopefully kept a little more up to date on current events. I don’t know if there’s a way you could set it up to automatically update from the MUD through an Immortal command or something, but it is something I think should stay.
