keeping with the starfighter’s small design; indeed, the cockpit is almost
entirely filled by a small, extra-padded acceleration couch. Any remaining
space is taken up by a minute storage area directly behind the seat–though
this would likely disappear were the acceleration couch reclined for a long
flight–and the ship’s expansive control panel. On closer view, the control
panel is actually mounted on a swivel, allowing it to move up and out of the
way–all the better for a smooth entry or exit from this confined cockpit.
Yet, once the tight fit is ignored and the pilot in place, the S-100’s cockpit
is remarkably pilot-friendly: the controls, due to the swivel, are able to be
adjusted to the perfect height and distance for the pilot; the large, clear
bubble canopy above provides an uninterupted view of the space outside, bow to
stern.
