I originally advocated for the skills being made unteachable because of how valuable they are. I’m now close to adepting it five times now and I’ve realized that because they are valuable, they should be teachable. The skills take a significant amount of time to adept and you should be able to monetize that. I think making it unteachable was an interesting experiment, but the population of master slicers has declined considerably since the mechanic was introduced, to the point where very few exist or are assisting with war efforts on either side of the current war.

Maybe make it taught to a lower level? For instance, a leader/slicer could teach up to 80%, a non-leader to 60% (or whatever theirs would be if it was lower?)?

Hrmm. I’m gonna throw my vote in for it staying unteachable. I like the idea of “Master Slicers” being few and far between. I’ve always been against shortcuts in general, even datachips. Especially being able to bot a datachip. Oh, that gives me an idea. Make slice/secure bottable, not teachable. My thoughts.

Err. I’d much rather it become legally bottable. Because even when botting it can take you +- an entire week to adept it, because its so slow.

Botable may be a better idea.

Making the skill bottable would go a long way toward making it more accessible. I do not think it should be able to be taught.

I think it makes more sense for it to be teachable than bottable.

I agree with Wallbro and Zero on this one. While bottable wouldnt be horrible it would decrease the value of the skill (putting it on the same level as ponder) with little added benefit. While allowing it to be “Taught” could increase RP and for the teacher still allowing them to BE valuable. Botting would take away from that too much I think. Teach would still allow for that instant gratification so many other players are looking for.

“While allowing it to be “Taught” could increase RP and for the teacher still allowing them to BE valuable.” The teacher is already valuable, because they have slice and secure adepted, and have a high security rating anyways. I for one wouldn’t teach it if I played a slicer, because it kinda goes along the lines of modulated datapads, if everyone has slice/secure adepted, it becomes worthless. So I guess I even take back my earlier thing about it being bottable, Just leave it as is.

I don’t get why this isn’t teachable. There are more character class combos that can get this than Flurry as a leader, yet flurry is teachable.

Because the worth of a slicer’s worth is based solely on his slicer rating. A combatant can have flurry taught to 97% and still be a piece of shit and not know how to pk properly. So having it teachable would lower the worth of a slicer, if everyone can get it, and if you have a low slicer level but can get it taught to 97% you could compete with slicer mains who actually can adept slice and secure on their own. So I’m still saying no, no, no.

I think you have no idea what you’re talking about, given that your slicing level determines your maximum ratings, as well as the accessible skills your character can use.

I just want to point out that making it teachable will hurt it in the long game. I point to science skills. While generally you can crack one a day from 0% on good days 2 and its bottable  that is still roughly 2 weeks of an unplayed character. What is your reward for the hard work and the pigeon whole you do to yourself. You are labeled a scam artist for trying to sell the skills. Even flurry which very few leader races can get only goes for a million. Some jerk will roll it and under cut the shit out of it then the pbase will place that as market value and not pay anything else. Eventually enough leader mains will be rolled that it becomes the true value and everyone will have max slicers out of the gate.

I point out to how many people have every science adept even the ones that do not do anything.

My issue isn’t as much with the skill itself as to making certain things teachable and others not. It just seems strange to say every single thing in game is teachable except this one thing because it takes a while to do.

I would much rather slice/secure be teachable. It’s a massive pain in the ass to skill. On my last character, it took me awhile to get it adepted basically running it during my every waking hours’ downtime from my main stuff. It honestly isn’t much different than flurry being teachable, or bounty hunting skills being teachable (which I still think BH skills shouldn’t be).
