Just because I’ve seen it happen to escape being chased..

A slicer should have the ability to pull up a log of all the previous names a specific ship was registered under. This is to break people of the habit of randomly changing the name of their ship just to avoid being found or chased.

I know it’s not the best reasoning for the idea but it’s out there. Flame or whatever at will, except RJ, he’s not allowed to complain. <!– s:wink: –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt="" title="Wink" /><!– s:wink: –>

This is a horrible idea. Why take a way one of the only ways to get around locateship?

How about there being a lag on changing ship names instead? The most common thing to do is to land, get out, refuel and flip the name..all of which can take place in less than a second.

I’d definitely be more in favor of the latter than the former, but I say leave it as it is. The mud isn’t that big, people get hunted down. The only real way to stay hidden is by not logging in or being INCREDIBLY careful to the point where you’re barely able to interact with the rest of the pbase (or maybe I just suck). We just had a change trying to lessen the power of locateship (which doesn’t even matter if you get the feat), let’s not make it even more powerful.

If you want to look at it from a realistic standpoint, I’d agree with Kresk. It took a lot of work, a good knowledge of ship mechanics, and transponder cards to change a ship’s &quot;name.&quot; Personally, I think ship names should be permanent once set, but it would be interesting to make a sort of disguise function for ships that use blank transponder cards to mask the ship as being under a different name. I’m not sure how that would work in conjunction with using locateship, but it is something to think about.
