I think fortify needs to be looked at again. Previously, it was one of the only viable leadership abilities for combat. In its current state, it’s nearly unusable.

      Fortify Facts:

      * Can’t be used in combat.
      * Can only be used when standing still.

This presents a problem, since by nature most fights in LOTJ are mobile. You’re going to always be in motion, which means you can’t apply fortify. If you’re not in motion, you’re in a fight most likely not by choice, which means you can’t apply fortify. If you’ve set an ambush and have had time to apply fortify, chances are you have people with you anyhow and you don’t really actually need the bonus it presents.

I don’t think there was particularly anything wrong with fortify being usable while in motion as it was before, so my only real suggestion for fixing it is rolling back the adjustment that made it true to the help file and just dropping that portion from the design.

What do you mean by it can’t be used in combat? I’ve not noticed it disappearing (until you move at least) as soon as the battle starts, though I could just be missing that.

I get the idea behind why the mobile portion of it was removed, since it’s based on the idea of fortifying your position..which by definition means you aren’t moving. However, I agree with you that it pretty much makes it a worthless skill. What about splitting the difference? When you initiate fortify, you get the 20% less damage and the -400 AC. But, as soon as you move from that position, it cuts both of those in half to 10% and -200. You would basically have to stop and reset your fortify skill to bump it back up to the max again.

I mean it can’t be activated in combat, so unless you’re setting up an ambush it is not very useful.

Oh right, sorry misunderstood what you meant.

I could get behind fortify being tweaked so that it is able to be used in combat. You shouldn’t get the full bonus however, that should still be reserved to setting up your position completely waiting for an enemy attack. Maybe fortify in combat is basically “taking the high ground” with some lesser damage or higher dodge rate with -ac being offered up.

I agree with Seryb… fortifying a position you are assuming that a section is setting up and fortifying their position… they’re not then going to get up, move and still be fortified. Although I do agree with maybe lessening the bonus if you are moving/in combat
