I was trying purchase some new gear for one of my characters today, and noticed I ended up wasting quite a few credits on armor with a description that lead me to believe it filled a different wearloc location than it did. Simple example given something that sounds like it can be worn on the body, but is wearloced for about. After searching a few help files and bugging the RPC with a few stupid questions I came to find there wasn’t a command to show the armor before purchasing.

So I suggest "exhibit". Used in a shop to a vender to view the wearloc of an item, and maybe perhaps compare to the item your wearing in the wearloc. Yes I do know there is a system already in place to compare, but (and granted I’m newish so still don’t know how the system works completely) I’ve found it doesn’t always compare for whatever the reason. Case and point I was trying to upgrade the armor on my arms, and it showed up blank in the little compare box, thus I had to shell out the credits to check it against what I currently had. Perhaps a basic compare just the armor given rather than hit/dam/hp ect ect ect. Maybe even show the item description? (Though I’ve noticed no items I’ve come across here have a "look" description to them) Also perhaps it could show the current condition of the item?

Just a rough idea to perhaps save a few headaches and some credits. Flame/comment at will. <!– s8) –><!– s8) –>

I’ve never noticed it. Honestly. I’ve been playing for over 4 years, and I’ve never noticed there was no preview/exhibit command. It’s funny.

But more onto topic, I agree. We should have something like that, and perhaps a way to -set- item descriptions. Only so much can be relayed through a item name, when you make them. Many a time I’ve had an idea as to what a certain item looks like when I make it. But I can only express so much with a makeitem <name> command.

Sounds like a good idea. I don’t see why we couldn’t have it but then hey, I’m no coder.

The way I’ve always gotten around that (and a few others I know) is I’ll just use OSAY to see what the armor would look like before making. I don’t know if that’s illegal, so if it is, I do apologize, but that’s how I’ve always gotten around it. Just be careful not to hit the limit break. <!– s;) –><!– s;) –>

I emote it, because that’s not logged, if you osay enough shit, the imms get annoyed at you, and emote is a good field for it. If you want, you can also test colors and names on a disk before you make the items. That’s why the majority of my items be purdy.

Not what I meant, actually. I meant literally going into a buffer to set a look description for makeitems. But back to the subject of Exhibit/Preview, it would be good to have to see what wearlocs the items are set for.
