Another one that drives me bananas, as I’d mentioned on OOC one evening, is approaching mobs to give them a package. I understand from the player base that approach is absolutely necessary. A necessary evil, as it was stated by players on OOC at the time; but do we really need that for quest mobs? It’s a pain in the ass and it’s a waste of time and typing.[/quote:8l9vrl68]

Personally, it doesn’t bother me. Being the kind of person who plays shady characters on a regular basis, it keeps me in the habit of staying approached to things. Plus, I have an alias for approach anyway. It may bother other people, but it doesn’t bother me… unless of course the quest mob moves around while I’m still approaching *cough*Alize*cough*

Or, perhaps make rooms like "package" rooms.

You’d type "package request combat", and you’d go to another planet, and type "package deliver combat".

It’d work with package room just fine, it would also make you move around a lot and NOT camp in the same room for hours. It could also assist with all the classes.

Although, bounty hunting is just fine right now, that wouldn’t need to be added into the package list. Or maybe smuggling. Most of other classes… maybe they’d need it, although engineering… it’s better to level up engineering with it’s skills.[/quote:8l9vrl68]

Leveling classes is a joke as it is if you can find a good leader main to put you up to the exp-gaining skills (locateship, diagnose, etc.) or a good combatant if you’re combat-focused. The only class (from my view anyway) that does not benefit from being grouped with a leader main for experience is science since after 105, you only gain exp from skill percentages.

Because logging in is synonymous with waking up. I do not like this change for regular players and hope we change it asap. You automatically rest/sleep when you type quit in a hotel room, so what’s the point? Can we just have it auto-wake you when you log in? We can change it to just send a room echo I guess. I just like the notion of players ICly waking up and going to sleep when the log in/log out.

There isn’t much that the ‘pilot’ command does right now, but that is not a reason to remove it, it is a reason to expand it. Crashing was actually changed so you don’t just get instant stunned for 3 hours. If you’ve crashed a ship lately, you would notice it does a random amount of HP damage, a random amount of hull damage, and disables your ship. You no longer get set to negative HP (and thus stunned for who knows how long). There are still a few kinks to work out, but the main problem with the PILOT command (ie crashing ships) has been fixed.

Complaining about having to approach mobs is just silly. To answer your question, yes. We really need to approach quest mobs. You approach people to give them things. That is how LotJ works. As Avanga says, it reinforces the concept of approach to new players and emphasises what it can do.

I don’t like the way most hotels are built. You wouldn’t be going to sleep or waking up in the lobby. At the very least, all hotels should have wing rooms with the flags.

And pilot does more than just make you crash if you release it. I’m pretty sure the pilot command is how skills like shipdodge are taken into account. Take that out and we’re going to have to figure out a way to make it check the person in the room for their shipdodge skill, which is fine if it’s one person… but what happens if you’ve got five people with shipdodge sitting on the bridge of a corvette? 500% shipdodging? =p

      Yes please.
One time, many years ago,I got bushwhacked in a room with one locked exit by two imps that logged in there. There should definitely be some kind of warning when (hidden or not) someone logs in in the room you are in.
Cold login mind, not a reconnect from linkdeath. That would absolutely kill spying.

Uh, linkdead messages are important. I mean, I know it sucks if it happens while you’re spying on someone, but for all other purposes it’s highly practical.

I mean, hey, I’d like to know when the person I’m talking to drops link. And when they come back.

Sending a room echo to notify others of your link status should be a configuration.

Yeah, but if you’re sneaking up on someone and your connection cuts out, you can’t afford for them to see your link status echo. When you log in or out, you should absolutely see a room echo.

Consequently, it’s pretty important to know if the guy you are dealing with suddenly drops link on you, or reconnects for that matter.

Sure but change the code so we can perm ld people and not just force a log out for attacking. I have to report to many players for lding on me as it is.

No, don’t change LD to be silent, change the rules so LDing is OOC and thus detecting a sneaking person because they LD’d isn’t kosher. Or just accept that when you’re sneaking around, dropping link is a risk you take. Just like when you’re flying.

No way could that be possible….You can’t ask someone to just stand there and wait for the person to come back from LD to finish sneaking up on them…thats just absurd to even think about. I do however agree with the 2nd part. You just need to accept the risk that if you’re sneaking up on someone, landing a ship or whatever, that there’s a chance you might go LD and screw it up. No need to punish the other people who aren’t LD.
