Walldo has been working on a new style of quests, dubbed dynamic quests. The basic notion is that participation will have tangible effects on the gameworld. If it works out well, more dynamic quests are to follow.

His quest’s premise is as follows: There is an underground spice factory on Coruscant. Its runoff is spilling into the Coruscant Sewers. This causes Outcast people to be sick (medical quest) and spawns spice-addicted monsters to spawn (BH quest). Players can discover the factory and run quests for the owner, like deliver spice to dealers (smuggling) and fetch chemicals to make more spice (science). There is a higher-difficulty quest where a player eventually blows up the factory. This stops the monsters from spawning, stops the sick people, etc.

A new quest tree is then opened up. A ‘healthy’ Outcast quest mob is available (still not sure on what he’ll offer). Engineering quests are available where players can deliver construction supplies. Once enough are delivered, the factory is ‘rebuilt’ and the old quests are opened up again.

      What do you think?

I like it a lot. It will change up doing the same quest over and over and let you get a cool story as you move through it with others.

Maybe the healthy outcast or whatever can sell a helpful item like good medpacs or do a permanent quest of some focused type while the dynamic quests moves on. I like it soooooo much. <!– s:D –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!– s:D –>

MASSIVE YES. Awesome. I definitely like the idea of quests sort of going through a cycle. It should help to make questing a little more interesting.

I always like well done quests, but you know how I feel about them for leveling. =p

Just bumping this back to life because it seems like a great idea.

      Any status update on it?

I really like this idea, Walldo. Some of the quests we have I don’t understand, like digging up diamonds and giving them to a man in charge of a mine making you a skilled smuggler.(beside the fact that i hate digging for hours)
Quests like this with a good story and something more interesting to do are A Ok with me, especially if they change over time.

      Here’s an update!

There’s actually a lot of work done on this. Maybe 5 or 6 quests, mostly tier 1/2 things. The biggest hurdle i am facing right now is the ‘gamestate’ changing quests. IE, what specifically do you do to blow up the factory? Fight some uber boss mob? Fight into a control room and blow it up?

I wear too many hats and sometimes I get distracted. Thanks for bumping this thread. I am going to see about getting at least a prototype operational ASAP.
