Maybe there would need to be reasonable limits on mugging even in the rim worlds, but you should at least be able to take anything they were carrying that they drop when they are stunned and steal a few credits, I agree methodically using steal/swipe to take everything there are wearing is excessive and unrealistic, you aren’t going to sit there over your mugged victim undressing them because the police might show up, you are going to grab what you can and run. That said, categorically banning mugging really does limit RP for a certain type of character, and if these types of piratical peoples existed they would be savagely hunted by the established governments. You could go so far as to have a pirate outpost in an asteroid field that you could only access if you were wanted on every planet or something (or some other mechanic) where they could trade and do business, brave independent engineers would have shops on these planets to cater to the "pirate" players because they’d basically be kill on sight on every other world. Basically if you chose to be an outlaw you would be painting a target on your forehead for every bounty hunter, zealous soldier and pissed off victim in the galaxy, it wouldn’t be necessarily a matter of if you got permed but when, and there would very likely not be any restores, but lets be honest, things are pretty boring in LOTJ in this era if your primary playstyle is combat, at least being hunted would be exciting, and more realistic.

help spacecombat

[quote:2mz5cx1x]The guidelines of HELP PERM generally apply when you are fighting in space. It is preferred that you try RP with your enemy through hails or radio before you kill them, but the RPC and IMMs understand that this is not always possible.

If your character is a "pirate" with the character history and RP to back it up, you [b:2mz5cx1x]MAY attempt to forcibly take control of another character’s starship mid-flight[/b:2mz5cx1x]. This includes attacking, disabling, capturing or [b:2mz5cx1x]destroying [/b:2mz5cx1x]the ship (note that abusing the spirit of this help file, IE wandering the galaxy blowing up ships because you feel like it, will result in punishment). You must allow the pilot of the ship you are attacking an alternative to being permed including ejection, [b:2mz5cx1x]capture[/b:2mz5cx1x], or [b:2mz5cx1x]enslavement[/b:2mz5cx1x].

The person whose ship is under attack may very well have good grounds to perm you for your actions, so choose your targets wisely.

Really you can hold the person prisoner until they "want" to give up the items you want to take from them. There is no rules against that, torturing them and so forth.

There /are/ rules against that. Help Jail_Guidelines.

Not if you enslave them. There isn’t rules against that, they can bribe you to free them.

There’s nothing illegal about plain STEALING from people at all. You can wander around stealing from people all day long, you just can’t stun them before you do it. There is plenty of room to be a pirate on LotJ, you just can’t be an asshole thug wandering around killing people and taking their gear for no reason. Maybe if you haven’t seen much crime on LotJ that just means the criminals are very good at not getting caught. <!– s:wink: –><!– s:wink: –>

That is basically what it boils down to. Are you going to say no because you -know- nothing outrageously bad will happen, or are you going to act within the parameters that your character should? I’ve seen people, plenty of people actually and myself included(Lol Avanga @ getting pheremowned), who went along with these type of RP for the sake of it, even if it ended up spoiling the day. <!– s:( –><!– s:( –>

Rim worlds were extremely dangerous and criminal in star wars, the rim worlds here just don’t have the same feel. I would like to see a huge disparity between danger of a world like ryloth and a world like Lorrd, and yes such a difference DOES exist in terms of NPCs, the lyleks are FAR more dangerous than the miners on Lorrd. But in terms of danger from other players it’s just not there. Obi wan had to dismember two smugglers in the Mos Eisley cantina because they were going to kill him and Luke for literally nothing but smelling bad, THAT’S the rim I’d like to see in LOTJ, dangerous, criminal, seedy. Plus if mugging was allowed on the rim and certain items needed to be bought there for engineering engineers would need to hire bodyguards, which would give combatants something to do besides stand around, count their hitroll, and "spar" with each other. Lets not even touch on the ridiculousness of people referring to blaster duels as "sparring."

Just hang around, If your on a populated planet you have a pretty high chance of getting robed and or ganked. Take lorrd for example. No real reason for it code wise but Lorrd is a populer hang out for the player base and it can randoml turn chaotic. If you hang out on lorrd enough you will get robed/shot/ or rob/ shoot someone.
As for pirate element people play pirate all the time. Its getting away with it thats hard.
Wich as for dangerous places in the rim worlds yeah there was a criminal element and they got killed quickly too. Thats how I see it in lotj the players who choose to go pirate and actually be in random victems faces dont live too too long.
