I said it once, I’ll say it again… capships still have waaaay too easy a time picking off starfighters. It [b:2l32fnma]should[/b:2l32fnma] be nearly impossible, no matter where you are on the capship, to hit a starfighter (make it [b:2l32fnma]impossible[/b:2l32fnma] for people with shipdodge and/or the feat). In terms of realism AND balance, a weapons console is inaccurate, and a turbolaser battery is just that… big guns used in capital vs. capital combat. Nerf the energy weapons vs. starfighters, make it so they can still be hit by missiles/rockets/torps, and that way it falls to the pilot to outrun/roll/chaff to escape. It’ll give people another reason to utilize squadrons or man midships.
Seriously, this has gotta change. It’s one of the most gimped aspects of space combat/combat in general right now.
Summary for TLDR people:
– Too easy to hit starfighters from cappies
– Starfighters should be near impossible to hit (from a capship)
– Impossible to hit with shipdodge and/or feat (from a capship)
– No change to how rockets/missiles/torps function
– Adds depth to MUD in areas seriously lacking
– Prevents super-lame and easy kills

Even though I like the idea for the game, I have to disagree with this. Wouldn’t larger ships use tracking systems to shoot? Thus negating the whole inaccurate thing?

You would have to change how rockets/missiles/torpedos function, because as it is, those -are- impossible to fire off against anyone with shipdodge/feat in a starfighter.

You would also have to change how roll works, because the timing on it is super buggy.

Aww. Isn’t that big a difference anyways, just leave the projectiles alone and nerf the ship weapons. Cappies are way too overpowered (and not in the way they’re meant to be).

I had something of an opposite situation where someone in a starfighter was able to sit (not moving) at their leisure while an entire battlegroup fired repeatedly at it and missed.
Though I do agree that starfighters should be able to last longer against capital ships, they shouldn’t be able to run amok either. Hard to hit with certain weapons? Sure. Impossible? Never.
-Shipdodge should only work when the ship is moving over a certain speed, say 30-50, since it shouldn’t matter how big your gun is if the ship your targeting it with isn’t moving.
-Probably isn’t possible, but scale a weapons ability to hit ships by their type. Lasers should have a much easier time hitting things, ions less so, turbolasers even less.

All I know is I can shoot down pubbies from a weapon console. Doubt they had the feat, but how often is a 150 pilot going to be flying a starfighter instead of a cappie anyways? There’s no challenge in it, and as a cappie pilot, I’d really like to see it changed.

It -is- impossible for Cappies to hit Starfighters. I know this from personal experiance, and was yelled at for it IC. Was hilarious. I used a dewback, insect, and sand metaphor.
"A dewback cannot eat an insect without getting a moutful of sand." or something along those lines, "The dewback being a capital ship, the insect being the starfighter, and sand being space."
And of course stationary ships are easy to hit, they’re -not- moving. Moving ships however, would be harder.

Probably bordering IC, but I’ve permed a lot of people in the last week because they thought they could get away from a cappie in a public shuttle/starfighter.

From personal experience, turrets are [i:o2utux7d]very[/i:o2utux7d] insta-hit. I’ve lost … two?.. characters that way so far. There’s no chance to exert any escape, ( at least, from my experience ) even [i:o2utux7d]with[/i:o2utux7d] shipdodge.
Could just that be modified so it’s less.. instant? It seems like the answer to all the space problems at the moment. "Can’t hit it with the main array? Get yourself to a turret, it’ll work right away!"

Yep.
