To revamp Bounty Hunters, I thought we could introduce a system that ensures that a bounty hunter is the best of the best. This system would be similar to Skaven Clan Eshin Assassins in Warhammer, a master teaches a pupil all the skills needed to be a full skilled Bounty Hunter, for a Bounty Hunter, displaying that they are the best of the best is a monumental boast of skill, and what better way to test one’s skills than to fight someone who knows everything you do? In Warhammer the assassins pupil must hunt his master and kill him to attain full assassin status, after generations of teaching in this method, Skaven assassins are now vastly more skilled than any other stealthy killers in the entire old world. Making Bounty Hunter masters teach this way will force them to think outside the box to kill his or her opponent.

[b:10n7mkh3]Firstly, this means that bounty hunter should not be a choose-able primary at character creation; you want to be a bounty hunter? Seek one out and give them a damn good reason to take you as an apprentice[/b:10n7mkh3], once they offer you the position, the bounty hunter slist skills will become immediately available to you, [b:10n7mkh3]however[/b:10n7mkh3], this also means that any people with combat as a main will immediately have their maximum combat level reduced to an appropriate level, and all related skills above the maximum level will disappear completely to compensate for the bounty hunter skillset becoming available.

      Syntax: bapprentice (person)

This will ask a person if they wish to become the master’s apprentice, this is largely a RP position but imms keep close watch on BH’s anyway so this is hardly a problem. A bounty hunter can only have ONE pupil at a time.

      Syntax: Killassign (person) (target)

This will assign a target to be killed by the master, the student MUST be an apprentice of that particular master, this must include official bounties already placed, and assigning a student to kill someone totally innocent will be against the rules.

      Syntax: astat

This will show the master the progress of his student, if the student kills anyone he or she has been assigned to, this will confirm that the target has indeed been terminated. The pupil must terminate THREE pre-determined targets to progress, This will also compare the masters and pupils bounty hunter slist skills, when the MUD deems that the skills of both are evenly matched, and all three pre-determined targets have been terminated, the master and pupil will be notified that the master may announce the pupil’s training complete, or the pupil may choose to simply leave and resign as the master’s pupil, then it will be up to both parties whether the pupil hunts the master.

      – Warning –
Taking an apprentice immediately gives them licence to hunt you after the apprenticeship is completed; you wanted to boast that you are the best? There’s your chance. A master who takes an apprentice and does not offer the apprentice the hunt openly are generally seen as cowardly people by other masters.

The immortals could make sure a certain number of bounty hunter masters are active at one time, this means there will always be a minimum number so masters can’t get permed and make the class totally extinct, if a BH master gets permed, their apprentice can immediately be promoted to master status and skip the “kill your master” part

I think this would be a good way to add some flavour to the bounty hunter aspect of LOTJ

Unfortunately, not enough bounty hunters are actually "Bounty Hunters". 90% of the people who roll hunters on the mud are nothing more than glorified thugs. Currently BHers are just a different flavor of combat character that’s not allowed to join clans. I’m not trying to shit on your idea, but making people go through all that isn’t worth the benefit of playing a BH main.

People can hunt bounties on combat mains if they really want to.

Agreed. Honestly, BH would need a lot more than this revamp to bring it to where it should be.
Barring short bouts of organized BHers actually doing what hunters do, they’ve always been utter shite, historically.

It would be a brilliant idea, Except, BH mains aren’t really that special. Now…if having the master BHer flag came with its own set of benefits that were NOT skill related, but stat related, then maybe. But then you’d have the whiney bitches who can’t understand why one MASTER hunter can take down half an army on their way out, and they will whine so hard its nerfed, and all of it becomes an irrelevent waste of time. BHers are a real joke on LOTJ. The ONLY people who think otherwise, are rather noobish. A Combatant who knows what he’s doing can take one down easily, and two combatants who are ONLY the skill level of the average combatant, can team up and drop one easily. IF, somehow, by some miracle, people put aside their whiney bulls*** that they throw out any time they are PK’d, AND, BHers were regulated via this method, so there were only, for example, 5 BH masters at any time, AND, the masters were the ones who were "Overpowered" /AND/ the Imms had a say in it…It would totally work.

And I still think BH mains should get a way to plant a tracking device on someone to letcha see the room they are in. Like a Mic, except more Camera like, and extraplanetary…As well as a way to track a specific ship (Only one at a time) regardless of name changes or sales of the ship. And…an instant strip skill for bound victims, so they don’t have to spend five hours very slowly stealing their eq while the aim friends of said victim make their way to the rescue.

This is a neat idea, but it doesn’t fix the problems with the current bounty hunting system. The problem is its core concept: the whole system of sending in apps to be selected for bounty hunter master, the exclusiveness/rarity/oocness of the master position, it’s just a bad system.
