"buildship, study, ponder, save and makearmor" is what currently can be botted. Well, for people like me who.. wait.. save?! Why would that even be listed? <!– s:lol: –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!– s:lol: –>
Anyway, for people like me who do a bunch of levelling THEN go and research everything at 1 in the morning it would be great if research was also a bottable thing. Since cmud and mushclient now both have several autoresearch scripts out, I’d like to be able to go to bed sometime this morning yet still get some researching in..
Seems to me the purpose of botting in general is to get rid of the more monotonous tasks. Like.. makearmor, buildship, study. Research falls into that category for most people.
I would still stop short of allowing it for anything else though, like cargo running.

Why bother? Even if you were scripting 52 skills from 0-20% to 75-90%, it would only take at most about an hour. Really isn’t a point.

To be fair, though, this is a really really minor change. Adding one word to a rule does not require any code or building, just an imm with 5 minutes to spare.
Even if it only saves an hour per character, that’s an hour they can spend RPing or leveling or doing something else that’s more productive and more fun than research. Why not?

The "So I can spend more time RPing" excuse has become LotJ’s race card.
Next thing you know, people will start saying that cargo running is too monotonous (which it kinda is, but that’s beside the point) and interfering with their RP time and will demand to be able to bot that. I think what we got is enough.
And quit pulling the RP card please. It’s bull and it’s annoying.

Anyway, i don’t think i’ve ever heard of anyone getting in trouble for botting research…
Its not like it gains your character anything.Also i agree with Kirash, the term "So i can spend more time rping " has been so over used it isn’t funny. Numerous people have put up the counter arguement to it "You don’t need skills to rp".

You need skills if you’re going to back up said RP (IE: combatants, slicers, BHers, doctors, pilots…well you see where this is going right?)
Yeah you can sit around and RP all you want, but when crunch time comes around or someone gets tired of your mouth or whatever…you’re gonna look quite silly.

Skills still aren’t going to help you lots if the other person is already more knowledgeable than you in pking. I’ve seen characters with combat under 30 take out fully leveled combat mains.
Here’s a hint, don’t talk smack period, you never know who’s playing the other character."Better to remain quiet and be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Yeah I know, but it doesn’t just come down to PK. You can’t RP being a great doctor at level 1 Medical. Because when someone comes in needing help, you’re gonna be all dirka dirka, I can ponder for you if that’ll help? Sure you can play the part in emotes, but there just comes a time that you have to be able to put up or shut up (no matter the area). Don’t get me wrong here, I could care less about botting research….people do it all the time and never get in trouble for it anyways.

This isn’t a stupid argument over skills and RP, it’s a simple suggestion to allow botting of research which is something that’s in the same damned category of studying. Come on, guys, take the argument to your own thread.

I openly bot research. It takes too damn long and its annoying. I haven’t been punished yet but I am prepared to take the punishment if I am caught. I don’t mind rping if I am researching but most people don’t want to.
