Alright, so here we go. Here’s how we do this. We’re going to discuss races, both in specifics and in general, and see if we can’t find any ways to fine-tune what we’ve already got and make a better template for future races that Kirash hates.

First and foremost, we should tackle an important question: How much power should one character have? It’s not an easy thing to say. Too much power and you take away interaction, too little and you risk boring the players. We need to figure out where the sweet spot is and make sure all the races fit in there somehow. Personally, I think we’re actually at a pretty safe point right now, where each main type is relatively unskilled in the other fields (engineering/science/medical, piloting, slicer/espionage/smuggling) and I’d like to see the lower races brought up to be in line with the cooler ones (Corellians, Balosar, Rodians, etc).

There’s no way Rodians should be free for what they offer though, lol.

It’s not that I hate the idea of implementing races in the future. I just don’t care for implementing obscure races that have little to no background information. I’d like to have at least some idea of what I am RPing if I’m going to be RPing it. Granted, this would allow more flexibility in the way characters are roleplayed, but it also opens the door for more "THAT’S NOT HOW UR SUPPOSED TO RP THE RACE NUB!" stuff when there is nothing that says how it is supposed to be RP’d in the first place.

Anyway… on the original topic. It wasn’t my intention for anyone to start up a thread about race balancing, but it’s here. Throw your ideas and issues with racial stats, level modifiers, racial abilities (except Mandalorian/Taung regeneration. I’m sure that would be the only thing brought up… and beaten into the ground), point costs, and whatever else you can think of.

      Here’s my beef:

      [code:20gachis]
      RACE: Gran
Str Plus: 0 Dex Plus: 0 Wis Plus: -2 Int Plus: 0
Con Plus: 0 Cha Plus: 2 Lck Plus: 0
Hit Pts: 1000 AC Mod: 0 Frc Plus: 0
Price: 0 Deposit: 0 App Only: No
      Default Language: gran
      Possible Skincolors:
      (11) yellow (12) ruddy brown
      (13) Dark Red (14) pale white
      (15) grey
      Affected by: none
      combat Modifier: +0
      piloting Modifier: +0
      engineering Modifier: +15
      bounty hunting Modifier: +10
      smuggling Modifier: +0
      diplomacy Modifier: +20
      leadership Modifier: -20
      force Modifier: +0
      espionage Modifier: +20
      slicer Modifier: +10
      medical Modifier: -20
      science Modifier: +0
      [/code:20gachis]

Even for a free race, Gran have it pretty damn bad. These guys got it rough. Supposedly, they tend toward administrative and/or diplomatic roles, but their level and stat modifiers do not reflect that. They should at least have a higher Wisdom and Leadership boost for that.

Actually, the more I look at this, the more I wonder if there wasn’t some confusion on the part of the staff as to what role this race would serve. +10 BH without +Combat on a supposedly diplomatic race? -20 Leadership with +10 Diplomacy? What gives?

In all honesty, the only Gran I remember from anything, except Ainlee Teem (Malastare Senator in Ep 1 and 2), were thugs and brigands… not at all like the diplomatic and peaceful race they supposedly were.

I’m going to hold off on a full indepth post on ideas until I do a bit of research first. However, my biggest complaint is the outright disregard for canon when it comes to races (Many races, its like someone just slapped together some stats based on what levels they wanted the race to get to, with no research at all as to what the tendency for that race is) and outright disregard for even the most simple of concepts like charisma…Why does a Baragwin, which looks like a walking turd, have higher charisma than, lets say…an Arkanian? I can understand saying that the charisma stat does more than just physical looks, but at some point it has to balance out a bit.
