So here’s an idea for you.
The Star Wars Galaxy possesses 20 million planets capable of supporting life. At the most, LotJ has 15-20. Adding more planets, even if they were just a few hundred rooms big, would flood an already deluded playing area and make player interaction occur that much less often.
What if the planets WEREN’T hundreds of rooms big? What if they were only 5-10 and mainly only mean for cargo trading and government ownership? Imagine the Corellian system, instead of having just Corellia (usually), there were all 5 sister planets?
I imagine each ‘mini planet’ would follow a formula something like this:
[list:zb0r9g1k]*Custom landing pad
*Generic city room that half describes the city half describes the planet in the description
*A generic capital building
*???[/list:u:zb0r9g1k]Obviously adding 20 million planets to the game is not feasible, but what if all of a sudden we had 10 ‘regular’ planets and 20 ‘mini’ planets? Clan strategies and options in warfare would probably expand a ton. Some changes to LotJ would be needed – the cargo system would need to be more fluid, and the diplomacy system still needs work.
So what do you think?

I like it, but I’d be afraid that it would spread people out too much, let people hide and bot on like 5-room planets. We might need a new way to track people?

I would dig the hell out of this. It would allow major government clans to be "Major" (and allow for more than one major government presence at once). It’d also allow for some neat RP, as races with homeworlds not in game (Rodians, Zeltrons etc etc etc) could actually go play around on their home planets and whatnot.
It’d ALSO allow clans like the Yevethans to have their hidden "Koornacht Cluster" planets (N’zoth etc), and not have the rest of the pbase missing out on cool stuff.

I like this a lot. It would definitely feel a lot more Star Wars-y if the universe was a lot more expansive. And you’re right, the Corellian system would [i:1ls6500g]feel[/i:1ls6500g] like the Corellian system.
Maybe you could do one better, and add housing to some of these mini-planets.

Rojan brings up a good point with the "Spread out" comments. There are a lot of wimps who would take advantage and go off and hide on randomplanet#129.
Perhaps a slicing skill that can reveal what planet a player is on?

I’d say no, only because the new locateship system is OP enough.
Maybe a slicer command to track bank access?
Outside of banks and ship ownership, I don’t see many universal (galaxy-wide) records being kept, exceptions like criminal history and employment (basically the shit in your history, not something that’s constantly-updated, etc.) aside.

I’d be down with a lot of small planets added, especially if players had a way of building on them without going through the BP. It’d give small clans a chance to form bases/etc, and it’d give the big clans more to fight over.
Only downside is, more planets = more ships.

The cool part about structures is that they can be built once, and implemented several times. At least, theoretically; I don’t know of any structures currently done that way.
I’d say that the city should be six rooms. Four city districts, in a square or a diamond (making them N/E/S/W or NE/SE/SW/NW, I guess), a "Capitol District" in the center, and a landing pad right outside one of the city districts.
Additionally, maybe add in a seventh room, accessible by some sort of transportation–boat, train, bus, whatever. In effect, a planet-specific resource–just a spawn for whatever the planet’s "known for," be it a specific metal, an oil, or whatever. Alternatively, place a one-or-two-item merchant on the landing pad and have the item buyable, not campable (botable).

I plan on finishing structures, building them, etc. after finals. I also may work on that "asteroids & junk" idea

This idea would also create more RP situations like the one where Dynamic improved that moon. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt="

That’s why I said there should be city rooms–for clans to put strucutres in, if they want. I suppose individuals could apply to do the same–rich people owned entire moons in EU, after all.

What would be really nice to see is some sort of fast-transit system inside a system that has a large amount of planets in it.
I.E. the Corellian system. You’re on Corellia and want to quickly go to another planet in the same system without have to launch, hyper, land. Would be a cool add-on for us lazy people.

I.E. SWR Shuttle System.
Maybe only for in-system travel. I could see that.
You’d have to make skills like bounty hunter track and stuff work in systems instead of on planets.
