An Emperor's Funeral
The funeral proceedings of Emperor Invictus Kai-Evelyn
On a nearby screen the Imperial Cog appears with the [Imperial News Network] logo displayed underneath. It fades out to a female human news anchor seated behind a desk. She takes her datapad in hand and addresses the camera, "Hello. Gemma Teel for Imperial News Network. It has been a week and a half since the body of Lord Emperor Kai-Evelyn was delivered back to Imperial Officials by Supreme Commander Cygnus Vho of the Rebel Alliance, a surprising gesture from the self-proclaimed enemies of the Empire. Loyal citizens have been able to pay their respects to the late Emperor in a securely guarded wing of the Imperial Palace, with the wake ending a few days ago with Lady Opprel taking his remains back to Lorrd for their traditional burial rites. Despite all this preparation, the Emperor has not been buried on Lorrd with his own people, but on Wroona." The image cuts away to show a gathering of rather important Imperial Officials, including a being in heavy plated power armor, a green-skinned Mirialan female wearing robes and a headdress, and a red skinned Zeltron female. The whole gathering has attracted a rather large crowd that is held back by Imperial Stormtroopers and Imperial Royal Guards, and with a few words from the top
three, the sarcophagus with the Lord Emperor's remains is slowly lowered into the ground. As the grave is covered by Imperial workers, the camera pans over the next headstone which bears the words 'Empress Vora Vytress.'
"Since his burial, the site has attracted a steady stream of visitors, from those who wanted to see if the Emperor was truly dead, to friends paying their respects, to rather overzealous worshippers." The footage shows the passage of time, the memorial party fading away to citizens gathering about, and then to crazed looking worshippers in the dead of night, with some chasing after any being who happens to be wearing robes. "With the increased travel of wealthy individuals to and from the city, criminal elements have started to move in, and police have been investigating strange sightings along the beach that they suspect are unruly teenagers playing pranks on the unsuspecting tourists." The image changes to the interior of the Imperial Palace, the obsidian Throne towering above the rest of the room: empty. "Since Lord Emperor Kai-Evelyn's fall, Executor Pak Ziak has taken control of the Empire alongside Grand Inquisitor Nerissa Opprel, though he has not officially assumed the mantle of Emperor. Certain policies of the late Emperor's have been rolled back to allow for more individuals to enlist in the Imperial Armed Forces to fight against the many threats that stand against it. Only time will tell how the Empire continues from this point on. This is Gemma Teel with INN, signing off."
