I have brought this up before, but it would be awesome to have it implement. Player owned large spacecraft, it would be sweet. Obviously restrictions would have to be implemented but think about it this way. Mon Calamari star cruisers and Imperial Star Destroyers, and Scythe Destroyers etc… would still be only available to clans for purchase and depending on size and make they could be either large or heavy spacecraft. Heavy spacecraft would still only be able to be bought by clans, whereas most large spacecraft would fall into that category as well. Wouldn’t it be neat thought to have maybe 4 large spacecraft that would be purchased by public? It would also coincide with my post a minute ago about space stations. Large spacecraft would have a greater use for space stations for docking purposes and repairs etc… A few certain planetary pads might be cool to house large spacecraft as well.
The space ships shouldn’t be like star destroyers, they should be public vessels that are meant for luxury or something along those lines. However they could be modified to be maybe a third as good as Regular ISD’s making them available to players who feel they would like to help the Rebellion, Empire, Black Sun or whatever else. However it would still take a few players acting on their own accord each with a separate ship to take on a single ISD so I don’t think it would really throw off the power struggle. A ship that comes to mind is the Wild Karrde which was an Action VI freighter used for smuggling and as a mobile base, but Talon Karrde also saved Luke’s ass by firing a proton torpedo into and ISD that was about to gank Luke and destroyed it.
I know this will probably have a lot of adversity but you can’t help but dream.

Negative. If you want a luxury liner, develop one. There were plenty of luxury yachts that were not considered large spacecraft… <!– m –>http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Personal … Yacht_3000<!– m –> comes to mind. Large spacecraft are not meant to be owned and operated by a single person (Booster Terrik is an exception mainly because of his stubbornness) . Naval forces are just an exception since it is improbable that there will ever be a full Naval crew to man a single capital ship (Spirit of Anobis was an exception).

What about pirates though? Why not allow them to fly something bigger than a corvette so that they can prey on almost every ship out there, and the whole needing a crew thing isn’t really a valid point because look at an ISD… all you need to do is move between three rooms to set coordinates, vector, target, and fire…. yeah you wont be firing every weapon you got but you can operate the thing with a damn good amount of firepower. The spirit of the anoobis was sweet, but why can’t we have that every timeline to make pirating more applicable. Also I know countless players that have wanted to join the rebellion, imperial remanants of whatever, but often times recruiters are not advertising because a stronger clan is out there ready to destroy them… This way players could engage in naval battles and show what they can do without having to wait for recruitment officers. If they prove that they know what they are doing, why wouldn’t a clan such as the rebellion or who-ever reach out to them. Plus I bet countless players would love to have their own large spacecraft to show off. Lastly sometimes there is nothing happening in the mud, if players could engage in naval battles with Large clans, or other players wouldn’t that add more opportunities for exciting combat and RP to happen? And if this did ever get instated why not have the major governing clan of the time make you pay a registration fee like 2 million credits on top of a ship price of like 8 million or so.

Give a good enough reason and ask an immortal. Cappy’s have been granted in the past to small clans and or a player. Or go the Avanga route and steal yourself a cappy and go on a rampage.

Gameplay-ly, you just move between three rooms entering commands. ICly, though, it is assumed that you are issuing orders to the faceless horde of underlings who are doing all the actual work.

This is actually a brilliant idea. It would encourage more players to learn how to fly ships, as well as not getting blasted into dust by the larger ones, which is exactly what happens now, unless someone feels pity.

Yes yes, nice idea and all that. Limit one per person. But you’re all forgetting one major problem with this idea… How are you going to keep it afloat. Log off for more than a day and your going to end up with a disabled ship with no fuel. Currently speaking if people were allowed to own Cruisers, they’d have no safe planet to have it orbit and get fuel from. Maybe large DSMF’s done up as fuel dumps you can dock to and just let them stay connected to so you can go to and fro aswell as paying a premium for fuel(More credit sinks kgo).
Edit: My bad, it was intended to get across that flying it once per day due to having to let it regen wouldn’t be much fun in the scheme of things.

Large ships and above automatically regenerate fuel, even if you’re in an unknown sector.

Well, coming from an imm standpoint, the MUD would get increasingly laggy if there were tons of large spacecraft running around.

I don’t like it, and either way I don’t think the imms would ever be onboard. Making these ships accessable to all would kinda take away the mystique and ruin the challenge of getting them.

Espescially now that they’ve taken huge steps to cut down the number of cappies big clans have.
I’m sure if you, as an individual, have a super-good reason for being able to own a cappy, and take it to the imms, they might show mercy. But this should not, by any means, become a ‘standard’ thing, for individuals to be able to own cappies.

I know its pretty far fetched, but if they were limited to 1 per person, or even one per players account then there wouldn’t be that many capital ships out there. Also I put up a post about space stations, and if the ships needed to be refueled and they imms implemented those then they could just orbit around them and it would work fine. (I haven’t flown an ISD in a little while so correct me if I’m wrong) ISD’s and all of those BIG capital ships could be made Heavy spacecraft and the ships I’m talking about could be made into large spacecraft, plus if you put a price tag of say 8-14 million credits on them, not everyone is gonna have one right off the bat, cargo running will be neccesary etc…

Players already own Vettes, if you want something larger possibly player owned frigates?

There is only one way I can really see myself approving of ships that large owned by players… and that’s if economy was massively reworked so that only in the rarest of cases could anyone afford to own and maintain one.
