How about a way to request going past someone blocking a room? Say if Player A was blocking North to prevent Player B from leaving that way. Player C accidentally comes along, but cannot leave North again because Player A is in the way. Player C can then ask Player A if they can pass by them. Player A can then accept or deny that person. If Player B manages to [TAIL] behind Player C, they would still be incapable of leaving the room since Player B was not accepted.
Upon acceptance, the player would then either be automatically transferred in that direction or would be able to move that way once. Should they find their way back in that room, they’d have to make a passage request again.
Syntax:
[b:4010g140]The Request[/b:4010g140]
passage <player>[b:4010g140]The Confirmation[/b:4010g140]
passage <accept/deny>Would give a way for players to move out of a room without having to risk unblocking an exit

I support this.

This is a horrible idea, mostly for the same reasons as you want it.

It’s better than "we let the guy go because he abuses the ‘run away when someone unblocks the exit with code instead of staying when trapped with rp’".
The same situations happen with some smaller race grabbing a bound larger race prisoner and running back to the ship, I’m sorry, but even the strongest humanesque race would have trouble dragging a bound fully armored wookie or hutt.
This is one more way to ‘enforce’ rp in those situations with code instead of those hax pansies that only rp when it’s convenient.

No it isn’t. That isn’t "abusing" anything. It’s playing the game. The RP in the situation is ‘you step out of the way so someone else can get past’ and if your target happens to run away too, that’s RP. It’s also RP when you say to the trapped person "sorry you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time you’re going to have to deal with it" OR you deal with the consequences of letting the person escape.
It would be cool if character weight affected movement time while you’re dragging them around though.

It would be even cooler if, like D&D, players had weight (say, 100 for small, 200 for medium, and 300 for large) and if you couldn’t carry that addition and their shit, you’d have to leave some of their shit or leave them?
That’s in addition to a system that slows you down based on how much weight you’re carrying (which would, when combined with the character-weight system, do the exact same thing as your suggestion in effect).
P.S. This is yet another post where I didn’t bash someone. And you said it couldn’t be done…

I’m pretty sure the amount of bashing posts outweigh the amount of non-bashing posts, RJ

I am a supporter of race weight being taken into effect when grabbing/carrying players. I find it too unrealistic for a Jawa to be able to grab a Whiphid and drag him around at the same pace a Whiphid could drag a Jawa (yes I’ve seen this done before).

Agreed on all of these points.

If you unblock an exit while attempting to keep somebody trapped then it’s your own damn fault if that person escapes… grab them/bind them/whatever.. there are ways to avoid them escaping without additions to the code (additions which don’t even really make sense in an RP environment).
Anyway, I won’t pretend that’s the real reason I wanted to post in this topic. Just wanted to say..

I’m pretty sure I was half asleep when I made this idea anyway *shrug*
However it did yield some fruit:

Well, there’s a step in some games chargen that allows you to set your weight. Of course it should fit your race and not always be 100.
Also, keep in mind that even a very strong medium race, say a combatant or body builder has to take in that the bulk of the object they’re carrying (another humanoid or such) or dragging typically impedes the way that they move not to mention weaving through traffic and supposedly not being stopped by NPC law enforcement for dragging someone through a spaceport, much less customs. But then these are two different concepts.
Personally I think a lag rate would go like this:
Small race (jawa, dug) dragging small race (jawa, dug) = small lag
Small race (jawa, dug) dragging medium race (human, twilek, nautolan, etc) = moderate lag
Small race (jawa, dug) dragging large race (wookiee, whiphid, hutt) = Huge lag to impossible
Medium race dragging small race = No lag
Medium race dragging medium race = Small lag (depending on STR)
Medium race dragging large race = Moderate (wookiee) to impossible (hutt)
Large race dragging small race = No lag
Large race dragging mid race = Small lag (for effort)
Large race dragging large race = Small lag (same weight) to huge lag (hutt)I use Hutt as the high end weight because I know they can weigh upwards of 1k lbs in their older years if they’re lazy.

I’m mostly indifferent to the idea of making it harder to drag people bigger than you, but if this [b:1ih0oea4]is[/b:1ih0oea4] introduced with lag, it should be something like approach/roster/whatever where you can interrupt it to drop your victim and just run. Not something like steal which actually LAGS you. If a Jawa is slowly dragging a Dug or something across a planet and one of the Dug’s friends shows up and starts shooting.. the Jawa’s going to run immediately, not try to finish dragging the Dug to the next room. The downside to fleeing is obviously that they lose their captive.

I agree with this. The approach style would be more logical. I can just imagine a little Jawa trying to haul off something he managed to capture or steal away…only to be busted and have to tuck tail and run.

If you have people grouped with you, you should be able to (somehow) drag with them.
