It would be kinda cool if you could A: Drop mines off your ship that anyone chasing it would have to vector around to avoid and B “mine” a planet so that people wouldn’t be able to land without risking damage to their ship. Might be too cheesy of an idea though. What do you guys think?

I agree that we should be able to drop proximity mines. However, we also don’t want people who have nothing to do with a conflict to go boom just because they are a noob and training piloting. so for now I would say we shouldn’t put them in.

Dude. Contribute something to a thread Jin, don’t just shit all over someone else’s suggestion and have nothing to add. It would be interesting if you could drop temporary gravwell generating mines behind your vessel, in order to deter pursuit, without coding in something that can damage ships while not using target. Just a little thing that has maybe a 15 second delay activation then a self destruct after 120 seconds or so.

If you did something like that yes. As long as it wasn’t there till they exploded. I had the assumption of U.S. Navy mines. Drop them in a area and leave them for a while. We’re still finding old ones. Also, I didn’t shit on your idea I just said I don’t think it would be a good thing depending on situations.
If we were to see this put in, the detonate timer would be good along with selfd. It would also be good if you could target and shoot the mines before they got in your way. Depending on your proximity to them your ship get’s damaged X pts.

What if the mines were coded so that public shuttles didn’t set them off, or merely got disabled by them instead of actually harmed. Or maybe the planet had to be blockaded so the blockade broadcast runs anytime you wish to deploy space mines. Then at least players would have some semblance of warning regarding mines possibly being deployed. Gravwell mines also sounds like a cool idea, not sure if it would be hard to code or even practical but they could always be taken out/tweaked.

Well actually, they could go in right now, just as a squadroned ship, rather than a deployed mine. It launches, turns on it’s self-destruct to maximum time, then after the 30 second delay turns on it’s gravity field.
