see thread title it isn’t really complicated sorry i don’t have a ton of reasoning for it, it is pretty self explanatory

Highly disagree with this. Researching is probably one of the easiest and most necessary parts of the game. To hand out experience for something you will end up doing anyway is just lazy. Go do quests. It is very easy to level diplomacy right now as it is. I would rather the other skills in diplomacy get fixed anyway.

Diplomacy is one of the biggest-pain-in-the-ass classes at the moment. Sure, leveling it is [i:2c4w968o]easy[/i:2c4w968o], because standing stationary in a room with a grab timer for hours on end is [i:2c4w968o]easy[/i:2c4w968o] but it isn’t exactly something that I want to have to do when I’m playing a game. It’s far from fun, and it’s not the difficult-but-gratifying form of not fun either. With that said, I like the idea. It shouldn’t give out too much xp, but an amount similar to the starting xp yield from showplanet would be good — something that reflects the fact that it’s easy to do and will get done a lot, but also acknowledges that leveling diplomacy fucking sucks.
It’s not like you can just spam the skill for unlimited xp, anyway. Each research tick takes time, and once you research all your skills that’s the end of that. There’s nothing wrong with giving out experience for "something you will end up doing anyway," in fact there are plenty of skills that are pretty essential to gameplay but give xp. I like it!

[/quote:25u759qv]It all depends on what you are doing really. I, for one, won’t play a Dip main unless I’m apping for one. I had tons of fun with my Dip main from Era 1 and 2.

Yes, we all agree that quests suck. However, they are a major part of the game now. So suck it up, stop whining, and be glad that questing for diplomacy is easy.
Anyway, as Kirash puts it so nicely: there is little reason to role a diplomat unless you’re applying. Research doesn’t require XP.

This past timeline has shown against the whole, "Fuck diplomacy unless you’re applying for a senator" hands down with the many small governments that were around, even if it was just for a few days. I rolled a diplomacy main and was going to join up with one in all the excitement, but the clan I had my eyes on died. So. That didn’t end well.
But people will always need to level diplomacy. No matter what you do, there will always be people needed to set crap on planets. Or there should be anyway. Case in point: this timeline’s eff-tastic economy. It made cargo-running at minimum seventy-two times worse than it usually is. <!– s:| –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_neutral.gif" alt="

No. Do not twist my words around. I said it is my preference to not play a diplo main unless I’m applying for one. Diplo mains can be fun. I know I had fun with mine.

They can be fun. I agree. I’ve enjoyed several in the past. Just not this recent timeline.
However, you are correct. I did twist your words slightly by reading into it what I wanted to read. So I apologize.

Saying that there’s little point to playing a main isn’t a good reason to make it eye-gougingly boring to level. Even if it isn’t your main you might find you have need of those 100 diplomacy levels you rolled in order to run an advertisement for your armor shop on Lorrd or whatever.

I’ve applied for one diplo and rolled two. Both the ones I rolled, I bought levels with points on and thus avoided leveling entirely because I refuse to do it. One of the rolled diplo mains ended up being 100% pointless (long ass story), the second is turning out okay, though it is worth noting that I had unofficially aim-clique secured a job for the second of my rolled diplos before even creating the character.
But yes, give XP for research. Because even if the quest dick is forever firmly up our asses, it’s still cool to have additional methods to level.
