having to wait for the clan leader to do stuff with the clanmotd is annoying could we get another motd added for each division and have it so the highest rank in each division can set their specific divisionmotd? it would be really nice thanks

This is a good idea in theory but it’s been my experience that people ignore MOTDS, whether it is ‘the’ motd, clan motd, force motd or whatever.

That is generalization at its worst. I am willing to make a bet that clan motds that are fashionably written still gather more attention than are being ignored. Also, could make it so that clan- and divisional motds are classified IC by rules; hereby possible for the leader to enforce a rule to check the division’s daily brief-in!

I’m going to have to go with Walldo on this one. I’ve seen clan leaders tell people time and again to read the MOTD for things, but when asked about it later, they’re like "Huh?"

At least having a divisionmotd in will not clog up the clanmotd for those of us who actually read it with pointless information pertaining to the other divisions.

I would like to side with Troll on this one, but I’m afraid my cynicism is going to win out on this one. I’ve seen too much "Read the MOTD/ClanMOTD/ForceMOTD." said by people to believe that most people actually read it.

P.S. I still approve of adding Divisionmotd.

I think some of the problem with MotDs not being read is due to excessive length. Honestly, if it’s offscreen by the time I’m in game, I’m not scrolling back up to read it, and I can’t be the only one.

I’d say Fishy nailed it. Most of the time I’m not even aware of an motd change because of the length of scroll at login. And yeah, I know that’s why we’ve got the numbers but I never seem to remember to scroll up and read it.

Well part of this is because some people are fairly long-winded in their MOTDs for the sake of RP while others are just straight get to the point. I think a lot of clutter would be cut down if, instead of posting stuff for each and every division to read on a single MOTD, the divisions can just read what pertains to them. It could help with a bit of the clutter. The rest of the MOTD is honestly just up to the clan leader’s preference.

I fully agree with Fishy but I think the solution is not to change the way we write MotDs, but instead to change the way they work; if they do NOT reappear a second time (unless they have changed) and are more of a one-time thing. That way if they actually pop up, you read them and don’t skirt them.

Also, clanmotd should be a permission that can be given to division leaders or something so they can edit it with their personal messages anyway.

Well the problem with people being empowered to edit the clanmotd is that it’s just like every other buffer. They’d have to either tack their message on to the end (which gets annoying and long fast), or copy the whole thing into notepad, add what they want to change, recolor everything, clear it, and paste everything back in.

Instead maybe have the motd be almost like a note board or the change log. Have one main MUD MotD that comes up when you log in and that gives an echo when it’s changed, and then have, above the number-to-type-to-log-in line, have it say if there’s any new motd information pertinent to your character?

fishy had an idea that i have been meaning to post i just couldnt remember my password and was too lazy to reset it

that is a fantastic thought, having a change log type deal for each clan would be super cool
