Imagine a level 10 engineer skill or just a basic command that lets you rename certain uber-common items like carapace gear so it doesn’t look like everyone is running around wearing the same shit?
Imms would be able to set an object with a specific rename flag that makes it susceptible to this command.

I’d say hell yeah provided a regular person (i.e. not a forcer or whatever) could examine it and see what it was a renamed version of.

That’s a great idea. It would add some visual flair and variety to the game, make it harder to confuse your equipment with someone else’s should it all end up in a heap, or help you determine exactly whose stuff you stumbled across in the Lylek nest.
In the same vein, what if there were a settable long description for equipment as well that appeared when a player used EXAMINE? I don’t know how much work that would be codewise, but it’d be nice to see something special about an item for once, especially if it’s clearly something special otherwise.

I would be down for this, provided it required an item in game to be purchased. Gotta have gold sinks.

have we ever discussed a salvage command while we are on a similar topic?

I was thinking this before when buying starter kits containing all the junk. I’d LOVE to repaint/redesign the stuff so that it’s more in tune with what my character would wear. Is there the ability to add a description to an item yourself?

I like this idea. Newbie question, can you not make items comparable to said uber-common items through engineering skills and the right materials? (haven’t had the chance to really dive into engineering stuff yet)
