We are looking to get LOTJ’s BuildPort (port 5600) up and running at full capacity. Unfortunately at this time we cannot do hands-on teaching but we are more than willing to help self-starters willing to learn. Imms will always be available to reference and answer questions. LOTJ operates on SMAUG/SWR building commands like redit, oset and mset.

This is what we’re looking for:

Part-time builders. Are you good at writing, but not comfortable with building commands? Do you know SMAUG mud programming logic but don’t like writing or making layouts? We will work to pair you with ongoing projects to utilize your talents.

New ships. This mostly focuses on creating interesting layouts and writing good descriptions. Making new ships does not necessarily involve assigning stat values, although we are always interested in helping builders develop an ‘eye’ for this.

Quest areas. Consider these instances or quest zones from MMOs. We are looking to add engaging NPC content to the mud. This will require both basic building skills (layout, descriptions) as well as mud progging abilities ranging from basic to advanced.

If you are interested, please fill out this real quick form and we will get back to you ASAP http://tinyurl.com/apwvxtk

Interested in learning to build? Looking to expand your build knowledge? This is the definitive source

This will be updated when there are cool things to do! If you are leading a build project and want something here, let me know

Building is a lot of fun in my humble opinion.

Every time I start a new project. I create a ‘design document’ where I lay out both the premise and a few key concepts. I’ve decided to share the design doc for a new Coruscant quest area to give some insight on the LOTJ build process and hopefully inspire a few people 🙂 The area will probably end up being around 150 rooms which, IMO, is a decent size without being too big.

Let me know what you think!

      http://tinyurl.com/b2uj733

This is pretty typical brainstorm process for LOTJ areas/content so if it serves to inspire you, even better!

From initial concept to the current state of the plan (circa Wednesday morning) took roughly two hours.

It followed this basic line of thinking: I wanted something on Coruscant -> I looked at the list of Coruscant Districts on Wookieepedia -> I saw the entry for http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Outlander_Club then http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Coruscant_Underworld which lead to a 30 second brainstorm then this OOC exchange ->

(IMM) Walldo: The fancy gangster-owned nightclub on Coruscant quest leads you through a background turbolift to the depths of coruscant where you __________ in the underlevel maze
(OOC) *Zeromus: bake (this was a joke -walldo note)
      (IMM) Walldo: bake spice
(IMM) Walldo: you go to the underlevels which is a tricky maze to navigate to harvest good spice
      (OOC) *Zeromus: there you go

And now here we are! With a basic idea in mind I created the above gdoc and fleshed out the concept

      A note about the BP:

It is going to crash. You might lose progress on your project. Get some kind of cloud saving text editor like Google Drive, Evernote, or OneNote. I use Evernote, personally.

      http://www.evernote.com

I write all of my area notes, descs and progs on Evernote and it syncs it to their server so I can access it on my tablet, phone and PC. It will save your life.

      Hey, y’all.

I’ve been working on Kuat for a really long time with Gyndi, and there’s been, like, 10 room descs left to be done. (Since like last summer when I got home, so I figure it should probably get done.) Actually, there’s a lot more because the entire entertainment district’s not been started, but I’ve not got the time nor drive directed toward this thing to get into the thick of that, so if someone wants to lay out the design for a restaurant and a casino-type-deal for an entertainment district built into the cliffs behind Trekshar Falls in Kuat City, all the power to them. If you’re going to go for that, please do us all a favor and do some area progs, a mob or two, and a quest to make it not dead space.

Really, the only things I -need- to have done have to do with the KDY base. I need a entry lobby for the ground base, a public conference area, a turbolift (which needs set to connect to the rooms involved with it), a landing pad,.. and then the fun part! Space station boarding area where the shuttle will drop you off, a hallway, the executive’s office, the boardroom, and the garage room itself. Funsies, right? That’s about it.

I’m done with shit for the rest of the day, so I’ll check the BP when I can and be around to be beeped or whatever to show off the area if anyone’s remotely interested.

And if not, peace! It’ll get done on spring break or something.

How long will apps be open for this? I’d like to build, but probably not until after this TL is over. I was head builder for an ACK!mud codebase back in 2k5, so I am/was pretty familiar with the building process, and can reaquaint pretty easily.

Willingness to build is not a limited time opportunity!

I know nothing about building, but always wanted to learn, and I’ve basically got huge chunks of time between now and June. Let me know how to get started.

I got some legwork done on the ‘how to build rooms’ bit of the academy tonight. I’ll be contacting the first round of applicants when I get off work.

      Hey gang!

I’ve got some good work done on the aformentioned Coruscant quest area. The two maze areas are laid out and while I work on making them “a-maze-ing.” This is something that’s been asked about quite a bit, so I’d like to offer the opportunity to write some descriptions for it.

The area is the very deepest parts of Coruscant, the Underworld. It’s a dangerous area populated by lowlifes and any number of horrors.

“The Coruscant Underworld, Coruscant Underground, Lower Coruscant, or the Coruscant Underlevels, was the lowest region of the city-dominated, galactic-capital world of Coruscant, laid with a mixture of ancient and forgotten ruins from the planet’s prehistory along with modern-looking, crime-ridden venues and clubs.” http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Coruscant_Underworld

I’ll be looking for a variety of descriptions, so if someone has already posted one, don’t hesitate to write another.

      In no particular order, I need;

      A garbage recycling facility

      Trash compactor

      A maintenance tunnel

      A derelict apartment complex

      An abandoned apartment

      A second-story catwalk

A dingy street through the Coruscant Underworld

      A beat-up street

      A Spicer’s Den

      A Plasma Refinery Complex

The slums of the Coruscant Underground

And I almost forgot to mention. I’ll be getting back to everyone who’s applied to build tonight when I get off work. Sorry It’s taken me a little while, been a busy week for me!
