      Hey there, guys.

Do you play Second Life? Well, great. Do you ever wish you had land, or [i:12x7vzs4]more[/i:12x7vzs4] land but don’t feel like paying for it?

There’s a reverse-engineered clone of Second Life known as OpenSim. OSGrid works exactly the same as Second Life does, albeit a bit buggy. However, there is no money, and no economy. (Yet.) There are no plans whatsoever to charge for land, et cetera. You can create your own region, pick a spot on the map, and link it to the grid if you like (and have the technical expertise!) or just get your own small Homestead parcel in one of the Plazas.

I’ve actually thrown a region up that I’m developing. I’d also offer land to anyone that wants it. I’d like to turn this into some sort of an OOC community center for LotJ, where you can log onto and hang out when you don’t feel like playing the MUD.

And the ‘totally free land’ thing is a plus.

The only drawback to this is that I can’t host the region all the time, as I’m hosting it on my computer. Even though it’s fast and I have a great internet connection and all, I won’t be able to keep it up all the time. So if anyone has a Windows 2003 server or something up, and wouldn’t mind tossing me a little tiny bit of space to run it, that would be truly excellent.

      EDIT:

Further information; It uses a SQLite database to store objects, etc.

Can run on any sort of Windows.

Also, I recently did an area wipe. I’m going to find a new spot for the region, too, somewhere out in the middle of the ocean with no(t many) other regions bordering it in case we want to expand.

      Another Edit:

Just my luck, I pick the day that the region connection system is fubared to start from scratch.

      Bah.

You’ll have shoot me, then drown me and burn me to ashes before dragging me into Second Life.

Well, if you all get bored, my region on OSGrid is named Telosia, and is in the middle of the ocean. No real lag.

Shoot me an IM. I have a server running 24/7 on an old lappy in my apartment. If it doesn’t turn into a bandwidth whore, I can set it up on that.
